How about this: unless someone has a 100% guaranteed, fool-proof, can't-miss solution to the free throw problem, don't try to solve it, because nobody can.

Im not blaming the coaches, just Jeters teams seem to miss FT's and not that we miss alot of them, I think the ones that are missed are in key situations and front ends

Once again, I'm so proud of this team. I believe we finished the game with only five members of our regular rotation still eligible. Just fought like hell. Felt the exact same way!!! However, one criticism: this team was more athletic and disciplined when Tiby was not on the court. I strongly dislike that kid and he consistently goes beyond what one would consider playing to/through the whistle. His on-court antics are a joke and he is a classless pre-Madonna. I will never root for that kid and I completely understand opposing teams dislike for him.

One more thought: I have been critical of Jeter but I never felt last night that he made any errors on the coaching side that cost the team.
Players have to execute and coaches have to move the pieces around effectively.
Jeter made some nice substitutions that contributed; ultimately mistakes caught up with us.

I don't want to turn this into a Tiby thread. But I know the players do read this and I felt I needed to say something.
I feel the comments above were a bit harsh. Not all of us feel that way. I've talked a bit with Matt at Panther events and I like the guy.
Matt plays with a lot of emotion, that is for sure. Does he let it get the best of him sometimes, probably. It happens to those of us that carry our emotions on our sleeve. But too many times you see players out there, from the NBA on down, who seem to just go thru the motions. At least you know with him he cares about the game, cares about his teammates, and genuinely wants to win each and every time on the court.

Never really seen two guys get tied up and Tiby get the T. Seemed odd.

After going through a season in 2012-13 where we had some players "checking out," it's going to be hard for me to chastise a player who goes all-out to the final whistle. Nobody can ever question whether or not Matt cares. Sure he walks a thin line at times, but I imagine it's how I would play if I were 6-foot-8, 235. Last year, he was the heart and soul of the program; I think we should cut him some slack.

Matt Tiby is one of my favorite Panthers now and ever.
I love watching a player who shows emotion on a court and will give you 100% effort on every single play.
A lot of athletes in various sports should take notes.

Athletes can play with emotion and do it within the ethical boundaries of their respective games--plenty of them do it every day. Tiby consistently crosses that line and I have no stomach for it. If I am too harsh, then so be it! Disregarding my feelings towards him on a personal level, my analysis of his game and its impact on the team last night: the Panthers were better on both sides of the court when he was on the bench. He is wildly undisciplined in shot selection and decision-making overall on the court.

One more thought Dylan and I will stop beating the "dead horse": I will cut a kid slack for poor shooting, not for acting like a jerk on the court.

For me, having hung out with Matt off the court, it's just amazing the kind of contrast he is. He and I were in a class together last year and he was the quietest, most mousey person there. I've talked with Marcus Skinner, who has a class with Matt this year and he said pretty much the exact same thing.

I completely agree. Since we can't go to the tournament anyway the non-conference schedule is essentially all practice and fun this year. Our usual years of shooting in the 60s from the line though have cost us too many games over the years. Missed free throws are probably my biggest pet peeve when it comes to the sport of basketball. Misses drive me absolutely crazy because they are easy shots. exactly. free throws should be made 80-90% of the time. Course even a good free throw shooting team, like say the badgers can have missed free throws come back to bite team. They missed just 1 against Kentucky, and that was the front end of 3 at the end which would have meant that final 3 just ties the game instead of wins it. I've covered too many UWM games where they have shot bricks at the line and they ve ended up losing.

Anyone have a chance to read the article in the JS this morning about Auburn University and Bruce Pearl's return to college basketball? It was really a cool story. It seems that many years ago he was the coach somewhere else and was quite successful. I'm just curious, though -- did the article say anything about the team they beat? Did they have all their players available? Any foul disparity during the game or anything like that?
It probably doesn't matter. I'm sure they must have throttled some no-name low-major that has never sniffed the tournament.
Anyway, welcome back Bruce Pearl and Go Auburn Tigers! Hey look -- I think that's a guy from the Packers' injured reserve squad limping into the Bradley Center to watch the Bucks play the Bobcats! Six reporters -- stat!!! And make sure you count all the fans twice; we don't want to miss anybody. That upper deck isn't empty -- the fans are obviously just out in the concourse having a beer. (And besides, if we tick off Lasry and Edens they might lower their offer for our building -- and we sure as hell don't have anybody else to sell it to.)

"Class" in sports is a horsesh!t concept that upper-middle class whites wield like a sword and is laden with classist and racist undertones. Just come out and call him a thug or whatever, it's the same damn thing.

Did they have all their players available? Any foul disparity during the game or anything like that? So sad to see the whining and crying. The fouls were legit, the slow team just couldn't stay in front of their men. Auburn is seriously under-manned right now, it was the perfect time to play them. The excuse making is sad, your embarrassing the smarter Panthers fans. The rest of them understand the more talented and better conditioned team won. Move on, and the best of luck in the next one.
