Out of curiosity, when is the last time the 1 and 2 seeds both lost in the semis? 2002 is the last time the finals didn't have either a 1 or 2 seed, prompting the current format (#5 Loyola vs. #6 UIC in front of dozens in Cleveland). However, #1 Butler lost in the quarterfinals that year to #8 Green Bay. 1998 featured #3 Butler vs. #4 Green Bay. 1996 was #3 N. Illinois vs. #5 Detroit. 1995 was #3 Green Bay vs. #8 Wright State. But to answer your question, the last time both the #1 and #2 seeds lost in the semifinals was way back in 1987: (3) Xavier 82, (2) Loyola 74 (4) Saint Louis 55, (1) Evansville 51 Didn't the attendance of 300 cause the reason for the change?

That and to protect the top seeds from getting bounced early. Remember Butler was snubbed for an at-large bid because of that first-round loss.

Denying Green Bay a bid into the NCAA Tournament? That deserves this:

I started college in 2003. Didn't really watch too much college basketball and/or become addicted to the Panthers before that, so my knowledge of UWM (and HL history for that matter) really starts there. Thanks for the info.

This is the Panthers 6th Finals appearance. UWM is 3-2 in finals trips. a win pushes us into third all-time with 4 titles. butler holds the record with 7.

Where did Amanda Braun sit this weekend at GB? I saw so many other Panthers fans, but not her.

What a game! I can't believe we put together 85 minutes of total effort basketball over the past two days. I was feeling nervous that they would run on empty when they went down on the second half but they kept on playing on and playing hard. This is a team that we should all be very proud of. They were picked to finish last in the Horizon League this year. They had two games in this tournament where their shots weren't falling, and they found a way to win by giving it their all. They may not have been the most talented team on the court tonight, but they had so much heart.
Now we have to beat Wright State!

Aaron made some ridiculous shots tonight. the 30 foot 3 to put us back up 1 the running shot over 3 defenders to send the game to ot, and a jordanesque fadeaway in ot to put us up 5. when he's on, he's good for 2 of those absurd shots...as long as he realizes that, it's all good

I tried to delete the post, but ended up altering it.

Unbelievable. Just plain unbelievable. From being projected to finish last to 20 wins and now one win from the dance.
This is the most incredible and unexpected season I've ever seen us play and I'm glad I went to see the game.
Greatest turnaround season in program history!
WAR PANTHERS! GOTTA DANCE!
