I'm surprised to see that no one has mentioned us shooting 77% from the free throw line (92% in the second half). Getting to, and executing at, the free throw line are something I hope this team continues to succeed at.

I love that Matt Tiby looks like Riff Raff or James Franco from Spring Breakers. They should play a clip of James Franco saying "Spring Breeeeeeaaaaaaaaak" every time he dunks. All Hale The Versace Panther. If he got his facial hair trimmed like Riff Raff I might die of laughter. But in all honesty please someone have him do that. It would make my life.

Enjoyed the game and witnessed many positives. Was wondering if we are beginning to resemble a Bo Ryan team with Tiby, JJ, Kelm, and in the future with The Twin Towers? Big bangers who can pop out and hit threes. Maybe Sharif Chambliss brings a different climate to the staff. There is a group of sophomores and frosh on this team that bode well for the future.

I'm surprised to see that no one has mentioned us shooting 77% from the free throw line (92% in the second half). Getting to, and executing at, the free throw line are something I hope this team continues to succeed at. Not surprising, given that Big Mete has exhausted his eligibility. A few negatives: 1, Jordan Aaron isn't a pure point guard and he's apparently not a shooting guard either. If he's missing his shots, there's no benefit to having him out there. 2, Kyle Kelm, a senior who appears to be a legitimate 6-10, 230 pounds, needs to finish at the rim against an opponent that's giving away six inches and 40 or 50 pounds. 3, The team relaxed at the end of the first half. I've had enough of the lackadaisical stretches for a while. On the positive side: 1, It was great to be back at the Arena, our real home for the foreseeable future. Where else would you want to play? 2, Matt Tiby brought tremendous energy and leadership to the court. He really needs to cool it with the 3-point jacks, though. 3, J.J. Panoske appeared very composed and evolved on the blocks. Hard to tell if some of that wasn't the assurance of success against an obviously overmatched opponent. 4, While not a scoring point guard, Steve McWhorter seemed to be very strong with the ball. I'd really like to see him lose that hitch in his shot, but it may be too late in his career for that. 5, Absolutely love the tight rotation and clear separation of scholarship players and walk-ons for the first time. Non-scholarship players weren't inserted into the lineup as "statement" substitutes.

Did I mention how nice it is to be back at The Arena?

I would only caution people to temper some of the enthusiasm, if only because they played a D3 program- not one of their usual tough matchups, such as Concordia-St. Cloud or Ohio Dominican U.

Oh, totally temper the enthusiasm. This could still be a 10-win team. Of course, that would be a two-win improvement over last year. I just enjoyed watching the guys play with some life.

Who woulda thought one of Jeter and Co.'s biggest defenders would skip on seasons for the 1st time since 2006-2007? "Temper enthusiasm?". What does that mean? Comments from this Marian scrimmage thread do sound promising. I'll be back for the regular season- even if I have to use my student ID. If we can recapture 2010-2011 (2005/2006 are a ways off I would think- hopefully not gone forever)... (and not flop in the biggest game of the year), I'll make a $200 donation just for the sake of supporting. It was soooooo hard to support last year. Even people like me lose enthusiasm after horrible long stretches of terrible basketball. See you guys at the games, JK, PS, BBFran, Dunne and the other Milwaukee Panther friends I miss talking hoops and hanging with. Hopefully this will be a big turnaround season. But yes- enthusiasm == tempered. I've learned my lesson over the years. PS: Matt Tiby looks like Riff-Raff? LMAO. That could be a nice distraction for opponents to get flustered on. Haha. OOhp- Northwestern game is starting. GO CATS (Wildcats and Panthers). Glad to see some kind of positivism is back. Only winning will keep it around. I like that, "a quiet gym is a losing gym". Quality quote, Mr. Tiby.
