Some thoughts….
-We started off slow, almost lackadaisical, but maintained a certain amount of composure throughout the first half and always seemed committed to running our offense in the half court. I also liked the players propensity to get out and run when they had the opportunity. -Although this was the only time I’ve seen Matt Tiby play, tonight he was one of the most important players on the floor. He seems to always be at 110%, plays aggressive, plays with a bit off attitude, is very vocal on the floor, and seems to be having a ton of fun while he is playing. -Perhaps it was just the significant size advantage tonight, but J.J. seemed to be pretty darn effective in the post either making a good move for a high percentage look or getting to the line. He’s a great free throw shooter, and I wouldn’t mind seeing him get more touches in the paint.
-Our defense was poor to start the game, and we made some pretty glaring errors. But the way we tightened up the screws in the later in the game made up for the initial subpar defensive showing.
I look forward to seeing what these guys can do against D1 Loyola.

It was great being back at the Cell! Thanks to all the Marion fans that came and spent their money.
Matt Tiby is the team leader. Cheers his teammates on. Very loud in calling things out on defense. He will be on the court all the time.
It looks like Cody Wichmann is the 2nd guy off the bench. looks solid on the floor.
Great to have the old Kyle Kelm back!
It was sad to see the Panthers early on give up to many easy baskets, that ended in the 2nd half.
I like how the Panthers are doing the new floor MC's. Something like what the Bucks do. The new HD TV in the Cell are very nice as well. It was a great night!

I'd be surprised if Wichmann didn't redshirt given the substantial senior class leaving this season and the logjam at the wing. Remember that we started 3 guards today, and it'll be tough to take Bobo off the floor even when Arians, Lyle, and White all see time at the 3. Wichmann had a good scrimmage, but that's not a real game, and he was pretty ineffective today. Better to let him learn.

And anyone who claims jeter can't recruit needs to watch Austin Arians play basketball. I've seen enough players like Ryan Thornton, Shaq Boga, Kevin Johnson, and Deonte Roberts to think otherwise.

I've never really been against Jeter for recruiting. I just can't stand how horrible he is in big games and big game situations.

Probably the best thing I saw tonight was Tiby's energy during the game. The guy's vocal in a very positive way. Overall, saw some very nice things that already tell me that this season will be an improvement. JJ had a great game, Bobo was high energy, and AAA (Arians) was very good off the bench.
The best quote from the postgame was from Tiby on his vocal energy, "A quiet gym is a losing gym." Well said, Matt.

I'm personally surprised it got to the second page of a blowout win for fans to get on Jeter on this board.

Todd Rosiak
For a UW-Milwaukee Panthers team that lacked energy many nights last season, Matt Tiby might be just what the doctor ordered. The sophomore forward, a transfer from Kirkwood Community College, was one of the bright spots in the Panthers' 80-52 exhibition victory over Division III Marian College on Thursday at the U.S. Cellular Arena. The 6-foot-8, 230-pounder contributed 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals in a team-high 26 minutes, not to mention three dunks earned by simply getting out and running the court hard. Throw in plenty of talking — both while in the game and on the bench in support of his teammates — and it's clear Tiby is just the kind of player coach Rob Jeter needs to help spearhead a bounce-back from last year's disappointing 8-24 campaign. "Doesn't have a problem with energy — not at all — and I'm excited about that," Jeter said. "It rubs off on the other players. It's contagious." Tiby, a native of Urbandale, Iowa, joined UWM at semester break last season and practiced with the team the rest of the way. That head start has proven beneficial, allowing Tiby to hit the floor running and assume a leadership role despite the fact his first regular-season Division I action is still a week away at Loyola. Taking its cue from Tiby, UWM built a 41-30 lead by halftime and slowly began to open it up in the second half. Marian never challenged from there. "I've just been trying to speak up, do the things that maybe not everyone is comfortable doing," Tiby said. "They pick up on it, and it's contagious. "I like to keep my energy on and off the court. My energy doesn't stop when I come out. A quiet gym is a losing gym — that's why I've always been taught by my father, Mark Tiby, a coach from Iowa. "I just keep that with me." Thierno Niang led all scorers with 13 points as Jeter started the game with a three-guard lineup that included Steve McWhorter and Jordan Aaron. J.J. Panoske added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds, and Austin Arians came off the bench to add 12 points in 14 minutes, displaying the quick trigger on the perimeter that earned him lots of playing time as a freshman last season. Thirteen of the 14 players who suited up scored for the Panthers, who registered a plus-20 margin on the boards (49-29) and shot 16 more free throws than Marian. One player who didn't suit up was guard Trinson White, a junior-college transfer and Milwaukee Riverside product who Jeter said will likely be redshirted. "I think with him, a year in the weight room and just a year of being around us could do wonders for him," Jeter said of the 6-5, 190-pound junior.

What do people think who went last night of the new flat screen tv's in the Cell?
What do you think of the floor mc's during timeouts?

I'm personally surprised he is making one of the highest salaries in the UW system.

The Floor MC's were needed. You need a hype man to talk things up and direct the floor show. I know the girl announced she would be doing it at the Scrimmage, as long as someone teaches her the players names she should be fine.
TV's looked good, I didn't notice them until I was leaving though.
Also, props for the hillbillys and rednecks from Marian showing up, spitting their dip on the seats. I just hope they don't stick students in that section anymore or I'll have to call the ticket office and move my seats.

I love that Matt Tiby looks like Riff Raff or James Franco from Spring Breakers. They should play a clip of James Franco saying "Spring Breeeeeeaaaaaaaaak" every time he dunks. All Hale The Versace Panther.

I don't think the floor mc's will be doing anything with players names, like that one time at the scrimmage. It's a nice switch in having the mc's, instead of the PA guy (Bob B.) doing it. I think the TV's were 36" and there were also three of them in the beer stand area. I like how they ran adds on them as well. They look pretty good! Thanks to the Marian folks in spending their money. Boy, were many of them drunk.
