LOL....I thought the same thing, Steve..... I saw somewhere that he only did two reps on the bench (225lbs)....WTH?!?! Seriously?!?! John Gilmore threw on more than that for a warm up/stretch! lol Heck, I could even do more than that.... With the microscope that the NFL puts those guys under, and all the strange/unique things they make the potential draftees do, I am surprised his bench test didn't exclude him right away. I am not trying to be a hater, but really.....good luck!

I am not trying to be a hater, but really.....good luck! Well to be fair, we're talking about a late 7th round pick at best. As an UDFA who hasn't played organized football in 4 years, even Demetrius said in an article that he needs a year to get stronger and caught up to speed with an NFL system. Yeah, the two reps at 225 could and should be higher, but his speed and athleticism will override those weight room numbers since he can always work on his strength during a year of development. The raw potential and talent is what the NFL scouts are really drooling at. Low risk, high reward type of situation.

He played two years of JUCO ball and two years of Division 1 basketball - and either a) never lifted, b) lifted lazy, or c) didn't respond to lifting.
Whatever the case may be, the fact remains that he is not very strong - which, IMHO, directly calls into question his work ethic, attitude, or physical makeup....I have to think a scout (much less a GM) is going to ask questions along the same line.
At his size, his strength doesn't exactly scream "I'm dedicated and hard working"....two traits that are paramount when you are trying to make the end of the roster. Just my $0.02

Just my $0.02 I would dispute your premise about his dedication and hard work based on bench press numbers. In my younger days I would lift with a friend who struggled in the weight room but was a monster on the bench press. I would kick his ass in everything else and he kicked my ass in bench press. We were both hard working and dedicated, we simply responded to the exercises differently. if Harris is the same as me, his bench press numbers will suck but he still could be strong in other areas. In a way I can relate to the poor bench press numbers but still be strong in other areas. As I stated earlier in this thread, if he is on a roster at the start of the regular season, I'm buying a uniform regardless of team.

Sounds like he signed a 3 year deal. I guess I'm not real familiar with NFL contracts, but does that mean he could still get cut after training camp? I know the NFL isn't guaranteed money, but I'm wondering if the 3 year deal means he'll actually be around for that time or if this is still kind of just an invite to camp.
Either way, congrats to him. Even though he provided us with some great dunks during the last two years, I think it's obvious his main passion and talents are on the football field. Makes you wonder what 4 years at Arkansas State would have done for him in regards to the draft...

he can still get cut...due to the non-guaranteed contracts and not exactly having "Bird Rights", NFL guys tend to get longer deals even if they're longshots to make the team

From the article He has been asked to learn two positions: slot receiver and tight end A lot of the initial talk was about bulking him up for tight end. But possibly keeping weight or slimming down for wide receiver might make more sense. Whatever happens, exciting to watch.
