Somewhere, deep in the bowels of the UWM Post archives, there's an article about scheduling where Jeter talks about balance - too many heavyweights and a team may never learn how to win. I think he's lost the benefit of the doubt on this. Frankly, Jeter deserves no voice in this discussion. Who we play, and how much money we make and/or spend should be solely decision of our new AD. Leaving it up to others hasn't worked in the past. Wasn't the 2-for-2 with then-provisional South Dakota State signed by Chuck Lang?

Totally agree with Lou.
These are strictly financial decisions now.
Here's a suggested sample for the early part of next season's schedule:
at Davidson at South Carolina at Tennessee at Tennessee Tech at Belmont at Murray State vs. IUPUI vs. Northern Iowa at Iowa at Illinois at DePaul

I would venture to say that we still made out in that deal financially, unlike some of the games vs UALR, or the like that we not only got our assess handed to us but also doubtfully saw much of a return for the trip from a monetary stand point. We are close to being in the same situation as the Southern Miss football team who had to cancel a game they had with Nebraska at home cuz they needed the money (granted that was cuz they were also firing a coach who took a 10 win team to only 1 win this past season i believe) but they had Nebraska re do the deal and they actually got Nebraska to basically buy the game out and Southern Miss got $1.2 Million for it, again that was the buyout for the fired coach but the theory is the same. Now I am not saying some school is gonna give us $1.2 to play them in basketball but hell if there is a team out there i don't care sign that deal and play there for 4 years if we have to WE NEED CASH!!!! There is no other option here really, we need revenue and obviously we have yet to find a way to turn a profit as a department in years so might as well go and get as many teams that would be willing to give us a few buy games, but we have to do something as a program to fix this hole we are in from a money stand point....

Leaving it up to others hasn't worked in the past. Wasn't the 2-for-2 with then-provisional South Dakota State signed by Chuck Lang? Your argument is is completely flawed. The fact that Chuck Lang (or anyone other than Jeter) signed a poor contract is completely irrelevant to Jeter's abilities to do what is best for this program. To my larger point - I haven't seen anything to support the argument that Jeter is "balancing" our team via schedule to make sure it is not too difficult, nor too easy. Rather, what I see is a lot of metaphorical spaghetti slung against the walls to see what sticks....

04-05 through 07-08 season, 4 games against South Dakota State...4 wins.
All game contracts, any sports are signed by the AD and head coach. Reviewed by compliance, put on file with the business office. As an FYI.

I know the Northern Iowa series ends after next season but does anyone know if there will be any talks to continue the series?
I would be all for it.

I know the Northern Iowa series ends after next season but does anyone know if there will be any talks to continue the series? I would be all for it. Before the game this year, every discussion I had with UNI people - and also by reading their forum - tells me that the feeling is mutual. They like playing us because it helps them continue to recruit the area, it's a competitive series, and it's a nice drive for fans. Hadn't heard anything about extending the series, though. That discussion usually doesn't come up until after the last game.

Another series I would love to begin (sort of return) in the non-con is with Butler.
Kinda missed playing them this year, although its probably a good thing because it would've been UGLY.

Illinois. Indiana. Iowa. Minnesota.
Bring it on.
Let's arrange as many "buy" games as we can.

It would be idiotic of the University if they don't sign some buy games. With the money situation the way it is, that should be one of the first things we do.

take as many buy games as possible, avoid playing as many crap schools at home as possible This likely means avoiding as many home games as possible ... and I'm down with that.

Honestly, wouldn't a buy game make us more than a home game in the KC... I mean if we used this pass seasons average attendance as our comparison. So why not. And if we actually do well next year during non-conference play, away wins are better for RPI too. And away losses hurt RPI less. Plus we would be making bank.

That's it. That's all that matters next year. We'll perhaps have no better chance to do this.
