I'm much more confident this time around. Mostly because there seems to not be a dead duck candidate for the university to pick this time.
Plinske will obviously get his chance at the D1 level sooner than later, I hope it is with us.

Schmidt obviously is a D-I AD already. Braun and Plinske both look like rising stars - I'd be surprised if either one of them didn't get the chance to be a D-I AD at some point.

Very impressive trio. Man, if Plinske wants a challenge he is coming to the right place!! Either that or he will need a rubber room after a year or two of mixed messages!!! Why would Schmidt want to leave UIC to come here??? Facilities are like night and day!!!

I don't see him as long term candidate.

I'm curious why Schmidt wants to come here. Not because of our situation but why does he want to take a lateral move to a university that is already in his conference? Seems odd.

Maybe because UWM has an enrollment off nearly 30,000. It's the second largest university in the state. It is becoming a leading research institution in the largest metropolitan area in Wisconsin. It's alumni base grows stronger every year. It's current chancellor sees athletics as an important asset to the life of students and alumni. That Milwaukee offers a quality of life that is rich in arts and sports. Opportunity to grow professionally exists in Milwaukee. Ask Herb Kohl, Bud Selig, and many more leaders who call Milwaukee home.

And as of the 2010 Press-Gazette story, UIC had the largest athletic budget in the league. On the surface, it just seems like an odd lateral move that he would be taking.

Leaders may call Milwaukee home, but how many care about UWM? Plus UIC has a Medical College, Law School and Dental School, alumni that occupies big bucks professions. This Milwaukee doesn't have. I can only see Schmidt doing this in order to move to the next level. And I really wouldn't have a problem with this. If he can get this mess cleaned up and in the black, then leave for a better position elsewhere, more power to him.

Well, next time I see Bud at Jakes I'll ask him. Herb is probably bored these days. Who knows he could possibly have time for a coffee and discuss his opinions on the matter. One really never knows what motivates a candidate for a job. Schmidt is a finalist and is very competent. He must be considered given the facts. Personally, I hope Plinske gets the job.

After reading that article in the JS, I am more resolute in my thinking that Plinske is the right person for the job. Again, the other 2 sound like strong options as well. I especially appreciate the ballsy mustache that Schmidt is rocking.

Speaking totally off the cuff here Plinske sounds like a great fit. He obviously sees great potential here (one thing about our school, it DOES have great potential if people think big). Looks at the great things that have been done such as Innovation Campus, Freshwater College , School of Public Health and overall academic profile. As they say, make no little plans!!!
Amazed that Plinske raised over $11 mil at Whitewater for facilities and with UWM's alumni base including some very prominent business leaders here we have raised squat. It can be done if we have a solid plan and proposition it appears from what was accomplished at Whitewater.

Steve, I have felt the same way for many years regarding your second paragraph and our ability to raise funds as an athletic department. It can and will be done if someone has a plan.
