Wow, you really need to watch what you say and who you are calling out. I have no problem discussing what Belling said about UWM since it's relevant to this forum. Please try!

Going D3 with a student population as large as ours would be a joke, but I honestly wouldn't mind going D2 if it meant we could finally get a football team.

I previously responded with a pretty harsh post; I'll just simply say throwing crap out there about racism and accusing segments of the population of ignorance is, well, pretty f***ing ignorant itself.

I previously responded with a pretty harsh post; I'll just simply say throwing crap out there about racism and accusing segments of the population of ignorance is, well, pretty f**king ignorant itself. Someone claimed that Belling was an intelligent person. I can't help that it happens to be most apparent that he's NOT when he speaks of Black and Hispanic Milwaukeeans in dehumanizing terms. It also happens that my girlfriend of three-years is one of those aforementioned Milwaukeeans of color... which means there's a pretty good chance I'll someday have kids who are as well. For those (on top of probably a dozen other) reasons, I can't... in good conscience... let a statement like that go uncontested. And if that pisses people off... too damn bad.

I'd rather be D-I and never have football than be D-II and have football.

You don't have to live in Riverwest to think that belling is a windbag. He's right about some things in this case, but it's not hard to see the obvious misdirection this program has taken. There have been plenty of turds in the punchbowl before Geiger, easy to blame him now. Baseball is cool, and those facilities may suck, but Geiger needs to focus on a permanent home for bball other than the KC.
We could have a football championship subdivision football team anytime and remain in D1 correct? That seems like a better option than going to D2 with our tails between our legs for basketball just to get football.

That seems like a better option than going to D2 with our tails between our legs for basketball just to get football. Current finances beg putting football off for several years at minimum. As I've said countless times, football will not happen without mandate from students and alumni in the form of significant financial commitment. Significant being in the range of $50 million to start up and $5 million annually to cover enough costs for the department to turn a profit in the sport. Were I trying to start a movement, I'd lay it out with several significant donors - say, four to six - putting up the initial cash. Ask students to vote on raising tuition, and if they vote for it you go for it. If they don't vote for it, you let time go by before trying again. Football will happen at this school, it's just going to take organizing and a different time for it to be realistic. As I said in #Jimmy4AD, football is the goal line, not the offensive line. Our goal today should be to be well enough off financially that football is a viable option. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJ_yQ02xwsM

Seems to me that too many here are concerned about the messenger rather than the message. And the message is mostly on point. Sure, you can quibble about the largely irrelevant details such as to whether this is a commuter school or not (and does that label matter) but the message that this is a program going the wrong direction is really incontestable. The fact that Belling is the only person in the local media who apparently has an opinion on this speaks largely to his point as well. This.

Football will happen at this school No, it won't. Unless we drop to D3. By the time this school has the resources necessary to field a D1 football program, you will find that there is no such thing as D1 football as we currently know it.

Steve Czaban's robot football on the moon? I would say robot football is slightly more likely than a D1 football program at UWM.

What Belling didn't say was, that the school is not paying $250,000 per year in rent & ticket fees. I wonder how much now the school has to pay for extra staff, when I would guess that is covered by the rent you pay at the Cell.

What Belling didn't say was, that the school is not paying $250,000 per year in rent & ticket fees. I wonder how much now the school has to pay for extra staff, when I would guess that is covered by the rent you pay at the Cell. Yes and no....The AD does bring a lot of student workers with it to games at the cell as it is, Student workers for handing out the student section tickets, student workers who run the on court promotions, student workers who run the will call list, student workers who hand out any promotional items, student workers who sell tickets (as well as US Cell staff here) Student workers for the Bookstore display (granted those are the bookstore employees for the sot part) so to a degree you are right, but honestly I bet it is basically a wash there, and trust me as a former student worker it is not like you are making all that much over the bare minimum wage spot. I would ask Belling if he understand the contract UWM had with the Cell and how they were not willing to make any changes for UWM. He is wrong as many have noted on that notion UWM had the first choice of event dates, we all know that is a lie, and the ticket fee was the biggest joke, making pennies on your tickets will not get you anywhere and if he is unaware of what the cost to use the Cell was then he of course would assume the move back to campus was a terrible one, but i guess my question would be what other option was there for a department that has basically been mandated to reduce spending and try to get out of debt? Is there another facility that is/was willing to give us the space to use and that was willing to work with us on things cuz if there was I would like to hear of it since i certainly don;t recall there being any other locations that would work for us. Also to the person who said that we haven't had vision or direction since Nancy Zympher was here, im sorry but no. She wanted nothing to do with athletics at all and tired her damnedest to not give them any help or consideration, and the Pavilion is the prefect example, she would not let any plans be approved that contained the idea of upgrading or changing the actual Klotsche Center to enhance our on campus arena so part of the reason we are stuck with this turd of an arena is due to her lack of faith or interest in our school's athletics and then she skipped town for the bigger payday and bigger profile of University of Cincinnati, and then came another chancellor who didn't care about athletics, in Santiago. So to say Lovell has been part of the problem I'm not sure i agree with that as he has been our first full time chancellor in the last three who actually has come out and said he wants athletics to survive, Lovell is the reason why the students are now able to be notified about athletic events, the reason why the athletic department can advertise their games in the dorms since neither of the other 2 would let those practices take place since they both viewed the athletics department as a student organization and not an actually arm of the university. I will agree that I think Gieger has not found a way to connect with our fan base, the idea of not allowing beer sales and being so stead firm on that would be example #1 to me. I can get the idea of not wanting to sell beer at a college game on campus, that part makes sense to me, but to not be willing to have a discussion about it is a bit ridiculous as well. I think that he also under estimated the feeling we as fans would have as a whole on having to move back the Klotsche, and as others have said he knew he was here for 1 year so why would he plan for further then that, to me that is the biggest part of all this. He came in with the the perceived plan of "I'm not staying here, what do i care how it all ends up." I am not saying that is his exact feeling but that is how his decisions have come off to me. I was all for his hire i thought it would help us out at getting back to where we were before I was wrong, and I honestly do not see it getting better even with a new AD because he will have to start all over once again on how to move this program forward, so we will be back again at the drawing board for a 4th time to try and get some leadership or direction for this sink program. It pains me to write that last sentence so much as I have bleed black and gold since i started school at UWM, i so badly want us to be if nothing else relevant and we are not even able to achieve that it seems. And at this point what reason can someone give me to think that there is hope in sight? This whole process since Bud left has been one total cluster f**k up time and time again. We all had hopes but in the end we have had to deal with under preforming programs, unappealing facilities and under whelming support/leadership from those who are supposed to provide it. So at this point what else is there for the fans to do, have not had to take enough sh*t so far in this process? How much more worse is it going to get before they just end up dropping athletics to a lower level or all completely and if either of those happen good luck UWM, you will basically become nothing better then a large version of MATC or Gateway since there will be even less school pride and all those local alumni who do not like to admit they went to/graduated from UWM will be even more ashamed and even more unwilling to take the pride that should be there in their school. And as a side note, how in the world does anyone actually think there is any possible way this athletic department will ever be able to bring back football when they can not even find a proper place to play basketball in? Football in not happening in the next 10 years let alone the next 30 so for as much as I would love to see it, and being a part of the original club football group I want it to happen so bad but there is no realistic way that it can happen given the current state of this department as a whole. Sorry if that bothers some of you but truth is truth and fact is fact. I say best of luck to the next AD as you will have one huge mountain to climb and one huge mess to clean up, i just hope that this is not the end of my teams, or my Panthers.
