I gave a lump sum when I renewed my tix this year. That's when the ad dept hit me up.

Just from personal experience, I don't ever remember receiving a single phone call soliciting donations. Meanwhile, my wife graduated from Whitewater eight years ago and gets hit up for money at least every three months. If anybody who knows a lot more about this can shed any light on this, I'd really be interested to see what the whole fundraising strategy/philosophy is and how successful it's been. BINGO! I have 2 degrees from this university. I played intercollegiate athletics for this university. I have lived in the Milwaukee area my entire life. I have been a season ticket holder for men's hoops. I have NEVER been called, emailed, or sent a letter asking for money. If UWM isn't asking me for money who are they asking? Anyone? It's kinda hard to run a fundraising campaign when you change AD's faster than you change your underwear.

The bigger problem is the university doesn't have a vision or a plan for athletics. We hear they'd like to do this or that but there's never anything official. What's the plan? If you don't have one, come up with one and work towards accomplishing it by setting goals and milestones. Once you've made it known what the plan is and how you plan to get there, it's easier to go out and ask for money. People are reluctant to give when there's no vision as to what you're giving to. That's where we are right now and why I continue to question this university's commitment to athletics.

There hasn't been a plan. If there is one it's not being executed. How hard is it to send out mass emails? I bet there are so many people who would give money if they were just asked.

It's pretty obvious the whole athletic department is poorly ran and managed...Honestly, I am so tired of hearing how we are stuck with a garbage coach.... Find a way, I don't care what they have to do.. You cannot keep this guy around anymore... Attendance will continue to slide, and then how do you pay his bloated overpaid salary? People are mad, frustrated, and feeling totally played. Why should we be expected to spend our money to come and watch this crap? I know I won't. And that hurts me to say it, I have been to alot of games since 1997-98 season. Alot! If they keep Jeter on board, attendance and any fans they have left will give up. Just like this team has on their coach. Not sure what else to say at this point fellas.....

I think mcdadenets50 makes a huge point that needs to be looked into. Why aren't we asking for money? I mean all of those people must be thankful for the degree they received from this university seeing as they have become extremely successful partially because of the education the received from here. I feel like those people (as well as others) would be proud to donate what they can. If nobody is donating we are obviously not asking. I just cant believe that an athletics program that is in the red isn't reaching out more. Something needs to be fixed and soon.

McDade and I on Saturday made like the old guys in the balcony on the Muppet Show.
It was almost non-stop laughter.

there are usually things that you can do to put yourself in a good position to win a basketball game...pass the ball to your teammates, rebound the ball, not allow the other team to get their offensive rebound, play decent defense and take high percentage shots....
sadly we do none of these things at all this year....
the team plays like they have never practiced together at all, terribly off the mark passes, some passes to no one in particular, for as bad as it seems the coaching staff has done this year, the players have not in any way shape or form kept up their end of this either, they play with what seems like no focus, no execution and no desire....some of those things come from the coach a well i understand that but when are we gonna stop and say you know what the players need to actually get the heads out from their rectums and play the game. I have yet to see that at all this year, aside from the first half of the South Carolina game or parts of the Marion game (if i would have been at Davidson maybe i would include that one but didn't see it so im still not sure it actually happened)

Regarding fund raising, I can attest that they don't even call the people who do give money.

It must really be a sad state of affairs when the fans/alumni get on the message board begging to be solicited for money.

In a way I'm glad I brought it up as it's comforting knowing I'm not the only person who is bothered by this. On the other hand, knowing this is happening is very troubling and reveals the incompetence of whomever owns this fiasco.

I offered, at the behest of some people on this board, to raise money for the athletics program strictly on commission. I was stonewalled.

I did get a call this spring from a really nice young lady. The pitch was Andy Geiger is here, we are excited, etc would you like to contribute to UWM Athletics? It was not a week later that the surprise announcement was made that Panther Basketball was going back to the Klotsche. I almost did not renew my two season tickets and was totally turned off. No warning, no survey of season ticket holders etc...Just a tone deaf old guy that came in and crapped the bed. Once again, could accept if there was a freakin plan...now it has been "put on hold for now". Then yet again another AD search after announcing Geiger for one year that is now less than one year. But our financially strapped department is paying him $200,000 for what??? No clue of anything going on. How can people be asked for money when there is no idea what the plan is and what it is going to be used for. UNBELEIVABLE!!! We need three things right now (apart from a desperate need to breath some life and excitment into this program as we are fast becoming irrelevant. (love the JS coverage these days -non existent) <A new AD and New Coach <Move back to the Arena until the new facility is built OR <Stay at KC only if a serious capital campaign to get an on campus facility is announced in early 2013 or not much after.
We are so in debt now will it make that much difference , we have wasted so much money and been penny wise dollar foolish. I know we made a slight profit at the Cell last year although yesr, by going to KC we save a lot but at what price??? Make the coaching change and eat the4 salary... we have already ate AD salaries so as long as it is this bad , be bold, turn the ship around and look to the future. We really thought small by going back to KC,,, did that or will that solve our structural deficit?? NO...it will be a combinatio of things but this is horrible. Don't get me started on how cheesy and dumb down the KC is...gone to one game this year, lousy souvenir stand, here we are on campus and merchandise selection not as good as at Cell. could not find a game program to buy to save my life...the expanded menu at the concession stands was basically high school gym food, popcorn, candy, soda hot dog with one pulled pork Saz option, thought this was going to be catered by Union, the video board images are so small it is hard to even make out the figures on the screens and it is more irritating than anything... lastly this is supposed to give us our own signage etc and identify...had a heck of a time even locating the Sweet 16 and NCAA banners...guess the KC is too small to hang a decent banner. but oh yes,,, finally located an almost indistinguishable postage sizes stamp of a banner that does not even stand out stuck in betwween above the KC bleachers on the west side. This is horrible all the way arournd...it was like a morgue in there....pathetic little c***tail tables standing unused behind the pull out bleachers behind the band near the concession stand... sad....

Sorry, this needs to be addressed ... There is no rush to bring in an AD, so you might as well post the position now and do a all-encompassing search to make sure you get the right person. This does not mean Geiger is gone in a couple weeks or that we're "wasting" money on him.
