Here we go again!!!! Sixth Athletic Director since 2009?? Hopefully this time there is a more defined Athletics master plan or mission before we hire someone but I will believe that when I see it. My alma mater unfortunately does not seem capable of actually developing a plan much less sticking to something.
I am still a believer in the "lift all boats" theory and athletics can be a key component in raising not only profile but endowments and overall funding. A key to that is our flatship program, mens basketball. We were on the cusp in 2005 and instead of thinking big we settled for a "safe" coaching pick. Here is an opportunity for the new AD to bring in his own hire. We have lost 8 years not only with "Bo Ryan" lite but a move back to the KC and drop in stature including missed opportunity , ie Butler to capitalize and move up. The following would be a good start:
<Move forward with the baseball/track facilitiy...then..
<Get a basketball practice facility which would serve as practice facility while one of the following occurs:
*Do a Gentile Center type makeover of KC..Dig down, expand, make concourses and about a 5,000 seat facility less remiscent of a high school or at best D III gym which is what the current renovation even with "concssions" and "video boards" is still am embarassment. Would assume the current footprint would allow..
<do not see where the current footprint would allow KC to stand and build a McLeod Center type building plus the obvious financial issues unless somehow we could call in a Convocation Center, have it function as more than just athletics facility and hopefully get state funding to build. Then rip down KC and builit it there if footprint and funding allow.
My fear is that we are going to end up D II or D III again...Say it ain't so!!!!!!

I requested to be on the search committee before both Koonce and Costello were hired, but was not invited to participate.
You could say my record is perfect.
P.S. Relax, Steve. We are never going to drop out of D1.

Nice reporting on this, Jimmy. Also very nice of your friends at the Sentinel Journal to credit you with breaking the story but failing to link to your story.
At any rate, let's not dick around and procure Plinsky so we can move on already.

At any rate, let's not dick around and procure Plinsky so we can move on already. Something tells me if they are now opening it to a national search "to pull in the best possible hire" that it is not as cut as dry for Plinske as some may think, then again it could just be an elaborate rouse since we all know that the most truthful and honest reporting comes from sporting hires

I'm excited to see the commitment by Andy to see this through and continue on working on the chancellor's staff. This is all good news to me. I'm fine with a full Klotsche and good student involvement there for now. I think we are getting that. A half baked plan is not what we need and we've seen plenty of those. Mike and Andy look determined to avoid that. If the crowds suddenly come back on force, who said we could never return down to the cell until something on campus is built. Will that happen, no, not likely at all. There's way way too much focus on where we play.

Honestly, I'd prefer the Panthers adopt a Villanova-type schedule where most of their games are on campus, but a small-handful of important games take place at a bigger downtown arena.
In hindsight, that's probably what we should've been doing all along.

What big attendance games do the Panthers have other than Wisconsin & HL tourney?

We moved back to campus because we were hemorrhaging under the financial strain of the Cell contract and because the AD made the decision that if you want college students to attend college basketball games they should be played on the college campus. There was never any secret about either of these things.
The idea that we were moving back to campus specifically as part of a plan to build an on-campus arena was never more than message board speculation. If that disappoints, I'm sorry, but our collective recourse is to jump down the throats of state legislators and the Governor (good luck with this bunch) to spend tax money on an on-campus facility that UWM should have had generations ago or to help find private money to do the same. People keep talking about "having a plan." Money is the plan. If we get it, we'll build. If not, I for one still intend to enjoy every game at the Klotsche.

This is nothing to do with the AD search. Two thirds of the over 4K responders to the JS poll are glad to see Bielema go. Similar mind set to the commenters who want to see Jeter go. Three Rose Bowls were not enough?
