I think, what people need to recognize and be angry about, is that there is no plan from Geiger on the table moving forward for men's basketball.
I believe this was reported somewhere, but in case it hasn't, here you go: a contact at the Horizon League told me that the waiver to play in the KC is only for this season, and the league AD's will not be pleased to hear that Andy has decided to move away from building the basketball arena.
For those of us that were accepting of this move so long as we are shown light at the end of the tunnel, you can be sure that there is no plan, and we likely will not see one soon. To me, that means we must go back downtown until we have a plan, or we need to get a plan public before 2012 is out.

That just won't happen... I'd also be surprised if we heard any definitive plan about a new arena in 2012, beyond plans for a practice facility...

We don't have to go to the Cell if there is a plan, and there's no rush for a plan if we're at the Cell. Away from the Cell and without a plan, prepare for utter chaos. Okay "utter chaos" may be me being ridiculous, but still. You won't like it.

The move to campus was more than just to save money. College basketball games should be played on campus. Let's see what the new upgrades will look like. I'm pumped for the new scoreboard and videoboard. Let's see if the students show up.
Just because the AD said the plan in on hold, that might mean on hold for a short time. He wants a new building for the men's and women's basketball to practice in.

The video boards aren't guaranteed yet. Yes, they're purchased, but they still haven't been given the ok to install because engineers need to make sure the structure can hold the weight with the new pulley system that will be needed to hang from the ceiling.

I have asked every week since mid August about when we're getting them installed and that's the answer I get from everyone I talk to in the Athletic Department.

Call me crazy, I'm looking forward to the new scoreboard and video boards at the KC. It's a good move to have the concession area behind the two student section bleachers to have less people in the hallways, so people won't be blocking the bathrooms. I hope season-ticket holders from last season will be back for the 2012-13 season and support the black & gold!! I'm back in the seats I've always had......and I'm happier than a Seattle Seahawks fan! Can't wait to see the revamped KC. I"m happy Geiger is getting his thoughts out in the media. I really believe a new baseball facility NOW..................

I wonder if there is a creative way to put a few projects and some funding together? www.jsonline.com/news/education/uwm-may-get-an-iconic-union-v04qbhj-145266405.htmlIf there is this would be a unique way to bring together many of the "hospitality needs" of an arena with an everyday venue that brings the students together. Makes it easier to market the events to the students when they are flocking to the building every day for a snack between class or participating in another on campus activity. I know of one donor who is capable of a 7 figure gift who is involved with many sports opportunities in the region. Overall this is a good step forward. This will allow baseball and track to be moved out of the venue (step 1). After those teams are no longer using the facility the space can be reconfigured to host volleyball in a more intimate setting and create a basketball only practice facility if need be. It's great to see a project that was floated out there by some students 3 years ago continue to grow legs and help move the program forward. Yes it has taken longer than expected but it will be an investment in the student athlete experience.

I know that's the line Geiger is trying to sell, but a lot of college hoops teams in major urban cities play downtown rather than on-campus. Just off the top of my head, I can think of Memphis, Louisville, St. John's, Georgetown, Seton Hall, DePaul (in what I suppose is Rosemont's "downtown") and technically, Marquette. Besides, if Geiger actually believed that college sports belong on campus, he probably wouldn't be building a baseball park in Glendale.

UWM somehow lands the best AD in college sports and our fans are still not content! Maybe the university is not the problem that is keeping our athletic department from moving forward? I am starting to think its the unrealistic vision of many fans who want their personal interests addressed over what is best for the entire department. Armchair ADs are really the ones hurting us right now.
You can't build Ohio State or UW-Madison overnight. But, the recent proposal by Geiger is a huge step forward. This department has never moved this fast before or started working with such large donors. Real change is happening right now and it seems like many in our fan base are not happy.
A basketball stadium will happen, but finding the right donors to fund the project and creating a good plan takes time. Geiger's barely been on the job and we have a major building project proposed in athletics. Careful planning and a real fundraising strategy will make other projects a reality, too.
