Again, for the love of god, I am not trying to compare this team to 05, 03 or anything else. I'm saying that if a couple breaks didn't go their way back then, your opinions of this team would be extremely different.
I'm just asking people to have some perspective.

You compared this year's situation with Meier to a situation that could have happened in '03 and '05. Seems to me you are comparing these teams.

The 02-03 team suffered worse injuries than this year's team and made the NCAA for the first time in school history.
They created a new perspective for Panther basketball in the face of great adversity.
Please don't try to spin what's going on now in a positive light by saying they didn't face challenges because they did.
Sorry for that contribution for the total derailing of this thread.
More to the point of the current state of affairs, there are some very nice pieces in place for next year. Even without adding new bodies a mid-major could be in worse shape than playing JJ Panoske, Kyle Kelm, James Haarsma, Paris Gulley and Shaq Boga.
Another summer in the weight room, a few new bodies and the optimism of a new season will go a long way to bringing another new perspective to the conversation about where the team is and what may be possible.

Can someone explain the 02-03 team's injury situation to me?

Adrian Tigert redshirted in '02-03 due to a knee injury. He was named to the newcomer of the year team the year before.
EDIT: You can add James Wright after breaking his leg which severely hurt his athletic ability. Kalombo Kadima also I believe redshirted.

Also Rob Sanders dislocated his shoulder and Derek Huff was severly limited by injury.
The optimistic view point from this is to look at what some of these guys contriubted after returning to the court.
If Lonnie and Ja'rob can return and contribute next year it will certainly help the current state of the program look up.
A win at TCU wouldn't hurt either.

I have been working since september on a project with attendance ,surveys and other statistics in regards to the program.
I think some interesting statistics and information will come once completed
at the worst, it should be a long interesting read, just waiting on some 2011-2012 student attendance statistics from a couple Horizon League Schools.

I'm saying that if a couple breaks didn't go their way back then, your opinions of this team would be extremely different. The difference between these teams (and also the flaw in your argument) is that Rob's teams have never been "a couple of breaks" away from making the NCAA tournament. The last two years we have been beaten soundly when it mattered. Had we played well and lost in the last minute, then you can play the "what if" game regarding injuries. When you get humiliated and are never even close to winning the game, then it becomes impossible to use injuries as a legitimate excuse.

Interestingly, the Panthers came closest to making the tournament in the post-A.T/Joah/Boo Era two seasons ago, when they fell by 7 to the Bulldogs at Hinkle in somewhat controversial fashion.
That team had considerable momentum after impressively downing Cleveland State the night before.
The Panthers haven't come close to taking down the Dawgs in the ultimate game since.
