If we win the HLT we are an NCAA caliber team. What we do tomorrow will not really affect that. DePaul will be an extremely tough matchup for our guys. Thy have some talent and a good coach. Purnell is getting some traction.
Not impossible for us, but very tough.

Sometimes I don't understand your reasoning. I fail to follow the logic behind playing 5 months of a basketball season for one night in March.

What he's saying is that one game, win or lose, in the first month and a half of a season does not make or break a team's NCAA Tournament contention.

What he's saying is that one game, win or lose, in the first month and a half of a season does not make or break a team's NCAA Tournament contention. This is true. But if DePaul doesn't finish in their customary bottom-three spot in the Big East, a victory tomorrow would be added to the "Good Wins" column when the selection committee meets. Heck, their non-conference record added to their tough conference schedule will likely put them in the top 150 even if they do somewhat poorly in conference. Everything matters, because seeding depends on it. Another 14-point loss at DePaul may not look awful if they do well, but a victory on the road over a team that could be top-100 would be a big boon for the program. This matters whether we win the Horizon League Tournament or not, because once we supposedly get a bid, we will be seeded. Milwaukee, Butler and Cleveland State have all done damage in the 10-13 range. UIC and Wright State have been cleaned in the 14-15 range.

The Panthers are a 3-point underdog.

I am shocked we are only a 3 point underdog, having seen a couple of DePaul's games I think they are a solid team that would be a good win for us to put on the resume.

If this game were on a neutral court or at The Cell, Milwaukee would be favored.
Of course, the Panthers wouldn't get a game against DePaul at The Cell.
This is a tough game, one in which the Panthers need to be far more secure with the ball and hit more than 19 of 33 free throws.

I thought the spread would've been 7.

I said over a month ago that no Horizon team would make the tournament this year other than the HLT winner except, possibly, a team that dominates the league (think 16-2) that loses a very close game in the finals or maybe the semis. But I don't think there will be any 16-2 teams this year. Just like last year. If Butler -- Butler, the national finalist -- hadn't won the HLT last year? NIT. I wasn't even the guy who raised the tournament issue -- I was just reacting to it. Conference play has always been just as if not more important to me. As for the non-con, I want to win every game. I just don't overvalue them.

DePaul is going to Loyola later this week, why cant we get them to give us a return game? The Blue Demons probably see the Ramblers as an easy mark, regardless of where the game is played ... and it's easy travel. For the record, I'll be stunned if Loyola isn't the last-place team in the H League this season based upon what I've seen.

I agree with the Loyola predicition completely, I have never seen such a poorly assembled roster. No one has a role or a strength that they can rally around.

DePaul may get more of its students to attend the game at the Gentile than they get at the All- State. You can get on the El at DePaul and off at Loyola. The whole trip is probably 20 minutes.
As for Butler last year, if they had lost to us in the HLT Final, they would have had 7 losses to teams with kenpom ratings (didn't check rpi, but kenpom's ratings are better anyway) over 100, including a loss to YSU. Did any other teams get in with such a record?
By the way, kenpom predicts a 2 point loss -- 69-67 -- for the Panthers tonight. Let's hope we can make 1 more 3 than expected.

In Loyola's defense, they lost a key guard to injury, I think, before the season. That's where they are really hurting, although they need to upgrade their whole roster.
