Let it be said that the 92-93 team that also started 8-1 had its second-best victory in that stretch over Northern Illinois. The other W's were against Western Michigan (x2), Western Illinois, Alcorn State, Parkside, the now-defunct Northeastern Illinois, and...
Wisconsin. Someone said that the UNI game should tell us where we are because the Wisconsin and Marquette games are realistically losses. Call yourself a realist, I think you're more of a pessimist. This team has the talent and the coaching to beat both of those teams. It takes the will to win. And you know what? I think this team has it.
Bring on our Panther brothers.

That was me jimmy. I don't mean to be pessimistic, and i'll be there screaming my head off in support of the panthers just like you will, but realistically, we have less than a 20% chance of winning. I still think we will keep it close and play great basketball, and i look forward to it.

It was a very good win last night and I'm very glad I made the return trip to the Allstate to see it. I would be very happy if we always played DePaul and Northwestern in Chicago in alternate years. That trip is just too easy. And while we're on the subject, remember that we play at UIC and at Loyola in February. The drive is easy, the parking is easy and tickets are plentiful, folks. It's a blast to follow the Panthers.
As for what last night's game portends, well, it certainly showed us that we have a lot of guys that can play and contribute. Paris Gulley isn't likely to go 5 for 5 from three ever again, but if he can go 2 for 5 consistently and play the kind of solid floor game he gave us yesterday he will be the asset we all hoped for. Kaylon Williams played a tough, tough game. We can criticize him for his free throw shooting or his turnovers (although last night he was really strong with the ball), but don't ever criticize his heart. The kid wants to win.
Kyle Kelm had, I thought, one of his best games yet. I know he didn't score much and had some bad turnovers, but after playing most of the game against very athletic players it was Kyle who looked fresh and alert for some key baskets down the stretch. The little two man multiple interior pass game that he and Paris played that led to a late layup was just exceptional basketball.
And damn it's nice to see Tony doing what Tony does. He's the best shooter in the H League, period. That performance last night was Gordon Hayward-like.
I could say good things about every Panther that played. Yeah, I know Shaq had a tough couple minutes but he started well. We can all see his talent; when he gets it going he's going to be good.
Anyway, a great win. Looking forward to UNI. That Valley team is a whole lot better than the Big East team we just blasted. I think our team is on the rise, and I am very excited to see how they handle this upcoming stretch.

And don't forget about Ryan Allen...by FAR the most improved player from last year... No doubt about it. Ryan is almost a man among boys at times. And yes, he did block a shot.

Kaylon Williams, a terrific interview, mentioned in his postgame chat with Daron and A.T. that Milwaukee has won 18 of its last 22 games.
Since he arrived here, the Panthers have gone 27-15. I'll ride with that.

I read the article on JSOnline. Very good.
Anyone know what page we got in the hardcopy of the paper?

Page 6. The preview of Marquette's matchup with unranked, 4-2 Washington (who most recently lost to 5-3 Nevada) got front page. And the UWM article is about 300 words of effort-free garbage. At least it's positive press. I guess D'Amato has a lot to do though.
Here's a thing I just realized: the combined records of Panther basketball, Greenix basketball, Packers football, Badger football, Badger basketball, and Golden Warrior basketball: 47-9. Take the Greenix out of the equation and it's 43-5.
Plus I hear the Brewers did okay this last year.

Really good game last night. I was amazed how we came out of the gates firing and our defense was pretty good all night. Depaul has 2 players that scored alot going into the game and even though they got there points, the fact is that we kept anybody else from scoring many points at all.
2 things that really stood out for me: 1) The high pick and roll or pop with Kaylon and either Meier or Kelm was there all night. Depaul hedged hard on Kaylon which left Tony open for 3 many times. Also, I love running the pick and roll with Kelm since he is so good this season at finishing at the rim. It is also tough to guard since Kaylon has been driving into the paint very often and effectively this season. 2) We struggled initially with the press, but by the end we were beating it pretty easily and getting many good shots out of the press break. As people have already posted before, this should really help us vs. teams like Cleveland State.
8-1! Lets go for a big road win at UNI on Saturday! Go Panthers!

I said I believed this was a must-win game (yeah, I know, we can debate this but there really isn't a need anymore), and the team responded masterfully. This is the most excited I've been in years. Bring on the other Panthers.

Doug Gottlieb dropped on Twitter yesterday that UWM is his Horizon League pick. And out of all the talking faces on ESPN, he's by far the best. (He's also a Milwaukeean)

A shoutout for our shooting on ESPN.com: "DePaul had never lost to Milwaukee in 10 previous meetings. That changed Monday. Milwaukee had three players score at least 19 points in an 87-76 win. The Panthers had their best shooting performance in recent memory, and it started right out of the gates. Milwaukee hit six of their first seven threes and led 35-13 midway through the first half. The Panthers finished 61.7 percent from the floor, an Allstate Arena record for an opponent. Tony Meier and Paris Gulley combined to go 10-for-10 from long distance." espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballnation/post/_/id/41177/stats-to-see-seminoles-turnover-problem

(He's also a Milwaukeean) More relevant, he's a Milwaukeean because his father was the UWM basketball coach. I should hope he's got at least a little bit of a soft spot for our program.
