One thing is for sure, Howard Moore is a much better coach than Collins in his later years. If he can bring in the right recruits UIC could become a factor in the Horizon and actually make this a friendly rivalry.

No doubt that UIC is better coached. And good for them. I for one miss the rivalry.

Kirksey makes it interesting. He spends half the game looking at us, smiling, and shaking his head because we're spending half of our game making fun of him.

Kelm made 5 of 7 shots today after making 6 of 7 on Thursday. His season percentage is up to 52%, true shooting percentage is at 58.2. He's effectively averaging 9 points and 6 rebounds. In his last 3 games he averaged 14 points and 6.3 rebounds. Seems to me that Kyle will be named the league's Player of the Week. He grabbed an aggregate 11 boards and scored 31 points on a striking 11 of 14 from the field and 8 of 10 from the line. The only real competition appears to be Green Bay's Alec Brown, who also scored 31 points. But while grabbing 15 boards, Brown shot only 10 of 24 from the floor. A far less efficient performance. A good case could be made that Kaylon had the award in hand until he yakked on seven free throws down the stretch and in OT. Still, he finished with 25 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists.

Missing a bundle of important FT's with the game on the line is definitely annoying, but our FT woes WILL improve. Barring injuries to any of our decent FT shooting starters, it would be unlikely that we don’t finish the season with a better than current FT percentage as a team.
The problem is a simple one to understand. The players shooting the majority of the FT’s are not shooting them well. Just having Tony back logging starter minutes will improve our FT shooting, not to mention that JaRob will hopefully be back soon (another good FT shooter who logs a good amount of mintues). Also, I assume that James Haarsma, our leader in FT attempts (making him the most impactful FT shooter on the team), will improve his FT percentage. My assumption is based on the fact that coming into this season Haarsma was a career 72% FT shooter on 167 attempts (a pretty good sample). He’s currently at 62%, and that's a big drag on our teams overall FT percentage.
Both Kaylon and Kyle are historical poor FT shooters, but Kaylon is well below his career average of 59% (currently 43.5%). I would hope that Kaylon will do better from the charity stripe moving forward.
I’m not saying that we won’t have more crappy games from the line, or that we won’t lose any games due to missed FT’s. I think the fact that we can miss so many crucial FT’s and still win games makes this team very scary if they start making more of their FT’s…..and they will.

One of the most enjoyable things coming out of this game is being able to see 2-0 and first place for us in the HL for almost a month

So will they still take Kyle out of the starting lineup when Tony is ready?

59 points in 60 minutes versus UALR, Loyola and UIC. Two were wins and one went to overtime. I love the Panthers team defense this season, but they got to score more points in a game.

Because, you know, you have to start three guards in the HL. New rule this year.

Williams, McCallum, Meier, Haarsma, and Kelm. That's the best starting five this team has had in six years. Easily.

Replace McCallum with Ryan Allen and you've got it right.
