I would totally take the Panthers and the points with that spread.
If we lose I think it'll be by single digits.
Lets go win this one Panther Nation!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a huge game for the program? I don't see it.
This is our first game against a legit high D1 opponent this year, in one of the toughest arenas in the country, without our best player. I'll be very surprised if we beat the spread. To me this game is basically an opportunity to get tougher and, maybe, humbler, with the conference season starting next week. I just want to see our guys using this game to get better. This is like Butler playing Louisville last week -- except they at least played at home.
Just being realistic.

Doesn't it suck that after Brandon Wood leaves Valpo for Michigan State that you still have to play against him and he knows your team so well that he's their best advance scout. While we're on that subject, how does it work that Haarsma had to sit out a season because he transferred, and B. Wood goes from Valpo to MSU's starting 5? Can't wait for the game! Myself and a couple others from the student section are making the trek to East Lansing today. I feel a signature win is coming tonight!

New NCAA rule permits those who have obtained their bachelors degree (and still have eligibility) to be able to transfer without sitting out a season. Badgers QB Russell Wilson falls into this as well.

The rule has been around for a while. Lon Kruger's kid transferred to UNLV about four years ago under that rule when he was coaching there.
I don't look forward to playing Wood again. That guy can go on some impressive tears.

Huge game Fran in that it will help define the character of the program going forward.
Do you want to look forward to a 7,000-seat facility or look backward to a place that seats 5,000.
Do you forever want to be seen as the little engine that could (or couldn't) or would you like us to be known as a bona fide basketball program?
Do you know the last time we knocked off a BCS school? That's right, it was Oklahoma in 2006.
I for one sure as hell hope that our players don't read this message board.
"Oh golly, I just hope we can keep it within 25 points and not embarrass ourselves out there."
At what point are we going to stand up and be counted?
It's a great day to be a Panther!

I just meant it would be our biggest regular-season win since we beat Purdue, and could define us as a real winner for a lot of recruits.

I respect your enthusiasm even as I wholly disagree with your analysis and am amused by your rhetoric. This already is a bona fide basketball program. We compete and win in a great league. Obsessing about early season non-con matches with "BCS" teams just makes us sound like wannabes. It irritated me last year when we lost early season games to the high D1 teams, as it will irritate me if we lose tonight. It horrified me when we lost to Loyola, because it was so much more important. Perspective. I seem to recall CSU having a big early season win last year. Syracuse? Didn't do them any good in March. Now let's all cheer for the Panthers to win tonight, and see what happens. But remember, even if we win we'll be 0-0 in the H League.

I believe that was Cedric Jackson lead CSU team which made it to the round of 32 in the NCAA tournament. Might want to check your facts.

Although I would like to see an arena in the 8,000-8,500 range. I agree 5,000 is a step backward. I don't put a ton on this game. I agree we'll still be 0-0 in the HL, but this would be what the bracketologists call a "signature win" in the scant case we might need one in March. But on the other hand, it could be meaningless, much like CSU beating Vanderbilt will turn out to be.

Non-conference wins help us for a few reasons.
1) They boost the teams confidence heading into conference play. 2) Should we win the HL auto bid it would affect our seeding in the tournament. 3) A signature win like this could help us be on the bubble for an at-large in March.
I realize an at-large bid is very unlikely for us but I'd like to keep our options open just in case because I think at some point this program will get an at large.

I seem to recall CSU having a big early season win last year. Syracuse? Didn't do them any good in March. And as said earlier. Cleveland St beat Syracuse in the 2008-09 season. The same season they went to the NCAA tourney and destroyed Wake Forest in the 1st round.

It would be awesome to beat MSU but it is November, alot of season left and other goals to achieve.
That CSU team was 1-3 in the non con schedule vs BCS teams made the the tourney because they won the conference tourney.
