Still a small sample size, but those shooting percentages for Ja' Rob are a bit disturbing (more on this later).

There is absolutely no argument to be made. The coaching staff has done a sensational job recruiting and developing players, to the point where we are so deep we can make full line-changes like a hockey team and still have an abundance of talent on the floor.

The Haarsma/Kelm decision is interesting. Start Kelm and you've conceivably got a more stable post threat plus maybe the best bench player in the conference; start Haarsma and you've got a smaller front line but more energy and better rebounding.

Why must one start over the other? I think they make a pretty good tandem and compliment each other well....

Meier will be a starter and you can't take Allen off the floor. Plus I don't think we have the quality forward depth to put 3 of them on the floor at the same time for very long. Haggerty's a forward in height alone, and he's not a scorer.

Agreed, this is very intriguing. I think you start Haarsma and give up a little length. But what James gives up in length, he adds with his hard work on the boards. Also, I think Kyle is a good option off the bench because you have to think that he may have an advantage in the post(if he continues his post move development) versus the 2nd string 5 once he comes in off of the bench. But, Coach Jeter might just look at the matchup (such as playing Andrew Smith from Butler) and decide to go with length in Kelm since Smith is 6'11.

I guess I really wouldn't mind the coaching staff experimenting with the line-up Dylan provided
Kaylon Ryan Tony James Kyle
This is a tall line-up, so its a bit slower and perhaps would present some challenges on the defensive end. I agree that you need to keep Allen on the floor, but an argument could be made for sitting JaRob in favor of Tony.

As far as the lineup, fellas, it will depend on the offense and players we will be seeing.

I don't think we have the quality forward depth to put 3 of them on the floor at the same time for very long. Why can't you start with three and then have different combinations of one, two and three the rest of the game? Say that Tony (after he's fully recovered and assimilated) plays 32 minutes a game, James plays about the same and Kyle plays, say, about 26 minutes. That leaves 110 minutes for the rest of the roster (Ryan, Evan, Paris, Ja' Rob, Lonnie and Hags). In other words, I want my best players for the situation on the court at all times. To that end, here are my early-season performance rankings: 1, James Haarsma: everyone should emulate his intense desire to win; he might just average double-digit rebounds 2, Ryan Allen: an athlete and airtight defender who now plays in control; his shot looks worlds better than a year ago. 3, Kyle Kelm: he's making quantum leaps with each passing game; he can shoot from the outside or finish in the paint. 4, Kaylon Williams: the roller-coaster you just can't stay away from, he's a difference-maker in spite of his faults. 5, Evan Richard: as has been said many times, shooting is a priceless skill; he gets his shot off whenever he wants. 6, Ja' Rob McCallum: a mixed bag; bigger and stronger than a year ago but he's still too inconsistent and a liability with the ball in his hands. 7, Paris Gulley: side-spinning shot is reminiscent of another favorite former player; he's provided some relief at the point. 8, Ryan Haggerty: creates issues for opposing offenses with his length; he'll bite the opponent occasionally with his shooting. 9, Mitch Roelke: not sure Panthers win the season-opener without him; he's what you want in a practice player. IncompleteDemetrius Harris: just don't know what we have yet in Big Mete. Shaq Boga: tends to play on skates at times; the game's going too fast. Tony Meier: he'll stretch defenses in a way that few here can; can't wait to get him back on the court. Lonnie Boga: high-effort glue guy who could take some time away from Hags. Christian Wolf: could give the team a few minutes as a bruiser/enforcer.

It's going to be a long season if this list gets updated after every game.
Frankly it's too early and the competition has been too soft to come to any conclusions. This brutal stretch of games before Christmas will reveal a lot more about individual players.
My only interest during this stretch is going 2-0 in league play and showing some competitiveness against the elite teams we play, starting with MSU. We will be giving up so much height and size against MSU. I am really curious to see how we try to counter that, if we can.

I have an interest in seeing us stay undefeated. Will we do that? Astronomical odds say we will not. But I want our team to go 1-0 every time out. Let's see if we can head into East Lansing undefeated and crack some heads. Make no mistake: when Bucky comes into town, this isn't going to be the same 14-16 team he walked over last time. We're going to smack that skunk upside the head. Believe.
