Man, I just hate to be behind Fairfield and Weber State in these highly credible rankings.

Does American know that Butler lost Mack and Howard? I like Brad Stevens but this blind faith in the man is a bit much for me.

And Wisconsin lost Alando Tucker, Brian Butch, Kam'ron Taylor, Jon Leuer, and any number of other people over the last few years. You don't bet against a great basketball coach.

The year after Alando Tucker declared for the NBA, the Badgers were ranked outside the Top 25 in preseason. You just proved his point.

I can understand Butler being where they are. Until proven otherwise they are among the top mid majors going into the season regardless of who they lost.
I can't understand Cleveland Stater or Detroit getting the rankings they received.

But the year after they left Wisconsin went further in the NCAA Tournament than they did with him. My point wasn't about rankings, it was about not betting against a winner.

I don't think anybody is betting against Brad Stevens, but the fact is he lost his two best players, and replaced them with mid-major recruits. We're not talking about Kentucky here. You don't just lose your two best players and then pick up where you left off the following year. Butler will take its lumps early on, and at the end of the day they may very well be back in the tournament, but uwmbacker had a legitimate point.
"If you wanna crown 'em, then crown their ass!!!"

And last year, he lost two starters (including an NBA lottery pick) and his top frontcourt reserve and replaced them with what you would consider "mid-major recruits". They did ok. At the end of the day, you guys are not just arguing over a pre-season poll ... you're arguing over a pre-season "mid-major" poll. Until the NCAA adds a "mid-major" tournament, I declare this poll meaningless.

Where's Xavier ... or Memphis? Did you notice that BYU, which moved from the off-limits Mountain West to the West Coast, is now in play for the mid-major top 25?

The point is that Butler is not a team like UNC or Duke. It's pretty tough to just re-load and be the 2nd best mid-major team in the country after losing two 1st team all conference players, one of them being POY. Be real here. I was merely defending uwmbacker who I assume was surprised by the fact that Butler was the second best mid-major team in the country. I don't doubt the fact that Brad Stevens is one of the best coaches in the country. I merely was agreeing with the idea that the mid-major poll is pretty stupid. Still, it's voted on by mid-major coaches.

Detroit, with Ray McCallum, Sr. as its coach, is ranked ahead of Old Dominion, coached by Blaine Taylor.
I rest my case.

They are certainly struggling tonight. Actually uwmbacker's comments are on point ... Butler will have some rough spots early as they try to integrate 7 new players. I hope they're good by the end of the season, but we'll see. Easy to sit around and wonder how they would be if Hayward and Mack were playing as seniors this year.
