Does anyone know what type of giveaways the athletic department is planning for the basketball teams this season? They always seem to do the same promotions each season. T-shirts are always good one time a year but they should add in some new giveaways to get better attendance/more students. The Brewers (and Admirals) gave away schedule pens at the beginning of their seasons. Or they could give away key chains with the men's and women's schedules on them so people always have the schedule right in their pocket. They gave away a Pounce bobblehead last year so maybe do a Rob Jeter one this year (with it saying 2010-11 Horizon League Coach of the Year on the base). Any thoughts?

i like the Jeter bobblehead idea
one thing i thought of was this:
last year the bucks gave away miniature "1971 World Champions" flag/banners...i'd like to see the AD do something similar for the Horizon League title
for one, it'd be something a little different than some of their past giveaways...
for another, given how Panther Madness went, it seems like there's a good deal of anticipation among the student body...getting a bunch of banners in the dorms that tell people "hey, we're good" would probably provide some good marketing

You'd think "2005 Sweet Sixteen" would have bigger font than "2004 NIT" but nope. Perfect example: for anyone who has the 2006 title game on DVD like me, when they come back in the second half there's a point where a floor cameraman points up at the banner. He zooms in...then zooms in again. That was the Sweet 16 banner, the greatest accomplishment in our program to date. |

I like the idea of a miniature flag/banner saying something like "Milwaukee Panthers: 2010-11 Horizon League Regular Season Champions". And a Rob Jeter bobblehead. Or another Pounce bobblehead with a basketball in his hands or something. Does anyone from the athletic department read these posts? We need to give them our suggestions!  Also, I think they should list the promotions somewhere on UWMPanthers.com. Usually they announce the promotion only a week (sometimes even only a few days in advance). If they list the promotions on the website at the beginning of the season, it will get people excited and give them advance notice so they don't make any other plans for that particular game. Just my two cents. |

Last year it was Andrew Chevrolet t-shirts, Gruber t-shirts, Qdoba headbands & panther foam claws, AthletCo mini stress balls, Verizon cell phone holder, Nicholas Co. panther bobblehead and Pepsi magnetek schedule. We have many great sponsors for Panthers basketball and hope they stay for years to come!!
The ticket office is doing season tickets 2 seats for $99 and discounted other seats as well. Students get to go to games for FREE. UWM has a great tv add going right now for season-tickets.
You can lead the horse to water, but you can't make the b*tch drink.

You need sponsors to pony up good money for good giveaways.
The bobblehead was cool, when have they done that before! I'm with you on the foam claw, etc.

They are doing the iPad giveaways to students throughout the year. I think they have like 23 iPads to give out.

It seems to be working. We had a "student" sell out crowd couple times this year at a VB game cuz of the iPad, along with record attendances at Men's and Women's soccer games. Also, due to their success. Hopefully we can pack the Cell and get kids excited. I know we have been really trying.

With the proviso that the list of promotions is not buried on the department website (and maybe the whole website needs a revamping (hint hint MIlwaukee Panthers)), i like the idea of listing the promotions prominently on the website. Unless the team is doing really well and attracting a lot of attention, i'd guess that we get more people attending games who plan on attending than we attract of the "gee-what-should-i-do-oh-the-panthers-are-playing-let's-go kind of fans, so having the info available to long term planners can only encourage attendance.

It's cool that the Student Association had enough left over in their promotional budget after pulling thousands of dollars out of it to give themselves 25% pay raises while the rest of UWM faculty and staff haven't seen a raise in almost a decade to afford these nice iPads. I sure like mine!

Sorry for bumping this up but I've just started to put more interest in collect Panthers schedule magnets and getting them signed after a friend of mine generously gave me a collection of 10 or so magnets from a variety of sports (mainly men's basketball). So it got me started in collecting more magnet schedules. If anyone has any extra men's basketball schedules, especially from the 01-02, 06-07 and the 08-09 seasons (or any prior to 00-01 that feature players on them) that they don't need or want anymore, please send me a message as I would definitely like to try and work something out for them. I am also trying to find old game day programs from past seasons as well. I have the one's from this season, last season, 09-10 and 08-09 so anything prior to 08-09 would be great.
