Many of you are putting your eggs with Gulley and Harris. I hope it's not the Michael Tyler kool-aid. I never saw Michael Tyler before he played for Milwaukee. I saw these two in person. I hope they play in the pro-am this summer.

Any early bets on starting lineups? Here is my first attempt: BKaylon Williams Paris Gulley Tony Meier James Haarsma Demetrius Harris That's what I've got. Two seniors and three juniors. I think sometimes you just have to go with trends ... and the staff's recruiting efforts have been on a definite upswing since 2008-09.

Did you see them play in an open gym when they were in town for their visit, or did you actually get to see them play for their JUCO teams? Just curious. Any other observations seeing them play?

I doubt we'll go with a three-forward lineup. And I wouldn't be shocked to see Ryan Allen starting at the 3.

Truth be told, I could see practically any combination of the following players starting for us in the coming year:
Kaylon Williams Paris Gulley Tony Meier James Haarsma Demetrius Harris Ryan Allen Ja' Rob McCallum Evan Richard
In my opinion, the only two sure-fire starters are Kaylon and Tony. After that, it's a grab-bag, something open for debate between now and October.
The problem with starting Ryan at the wing is that the opponent doesn't need to defend him beyond six feet away from the basket. This severely limits your offensive spacing.
Also, different players wear "6-foot-7, 230 pounds" much differently. Demetrius wears it like Ben Wallace; James is a tough kid, but in reality measures 6-5, 220 pounds.

To god's point, with James being a tough 6'5" I could see him guarding the 3. As far as I know (and I've never actually watched him in person so FWIW) he has quicker lateral movement than Tony, so I could see him starting at the 3 but playing the 4 and even the 5 in spells if necessary. This gives our rotation so much flexibility with Ryan being the immediate backup at the 3 and Evan also backing up this position. That gives us the following basic depth chart (with obvious room for changes): PG: Kaylon Williams, Shaq Boga, Paris GulleySG: Paris Gulley, Ja'Rob McCallum, Evan Richard, Shaq BogaWF/WG: James Haarsma, Ryan Allen, Evan Richard/Lonnie BogaSF/PF: Tony Meier, Kyle Kelm, James HaarsmaC: Demetrius Harris, James Haarsma, Kyle Kelm

All I'll say in response is that I'm a big believer in starting the game with your most well-rounded lineup and that I really like the energy that players like Ryan and Ja' Rob bring off the bench. These are players with limitations in defense (McCallum) and shooting (Allen) and ball-handling in the case of both.

But having a game-changing energy player on the floor to start the game can also have a tremendous impact. Remember Haggerty two years ago. The situation will obviously be fluid, but Ryan Allen's presence makes us better and I wouldn't be shocked to see him out there. We've got enough perimeter shooters to maintain a decent amount of spacing -- I doubt Meier will see a tremendous amount of time in the paint -- and Allen's ability to post up smaller guards can be a secret weapon.
I do agree that Harris may very well start, if not Kyle Kelm to begin the year. Winning the opening tip is more important that people realize -- it's a free extra possession -- and we did it all the time last year with Ant, a trend that we undoubtedly want to continue. Haarsma not being the tallest player in the universe, Harris and Kelm give us the best opportunity. If not even Ryan Allen, which I can't be sure I'm kidding about.

A fun exercise. Consider how many players from the 2008-09 roster, which finished 11-7 in the H League and 17-14 overall, would make next season's team. See how your selections compare with the rest of the board.
Avery Smith, fifth-year senior Charlie Swiggett, junior Deonte Roberts, sophomore Riley Walker, freshman Ricky Franklin, fourth-year junior Deion James, fifth-year senior Zach Holt, junior Tone Boyle, junior Patrick Souter, freshman redshirt James Dean, freshman Tony Meier, freshman Kaylan Anderson, fourth-year junior Anthony Hill, sophomore Jerard Ajami, sophomore redshirt Burleigh Porte, junior Ryan Haggerty, freshman redshirt Jason Averkamp, junior James Eayrs, junior

Don't get too far ahead of yourself, dr. There are too many guys on next year's roster who have never played one minute of D1 basketball. There's much to prove before we start ranking players.

I've been hearing that Lonnie's foot is not getting much better and that he might be a medical redshirt this season. Anyone else have any info on this possible scenario?
