Flyer's Freshman Juwan Staten (8.5 ppg and 5.4 apg) and Freshman Brandon Spearman are transferring out of Dayton. This is not a good sign of a great rebuilding opportunity for their next coach. Per the article I've posted, they were leaving b/c of their involvement in the previous coach's scheme. I wouldn't be surprised if the AD asks them to wait until they find a new coach to make any final decision.

If the argument is that Dayton is in a better conference, the logical conclusion is that it has better programs. Well, we have Butler. Take away Butler and the A-10 is definitely a better conference. When looking at the Dayton situation, look at the entire package the program has to offer. Arena renovated within the past ten years that hosts regional rounds of the NCAA tourney and hosts over 100 events annually that generate income for the university, state of the art training facilities, an arena that while not directly on campus is very close to campus, average season attendance (12567) at 93% of capacity. If you can believe the fan boards, Dayton has money to spend on a coach. I would say relatively speaking, Dayton is very attractive compared to Horizon League schools with the exception of Butler.

Most of that was true for Bradley, too.

Bradley plays at the Carver Arena which is not owned by the University, it is a situation more similar to us playing at the Arena. Dayton owns and directly benefits from UD Arena.

Guys, if you're trying to convince yourself that the Horizon is somehow a stronger conference than the A-10 based on Butler's current run, just stop. You are wrong. The A-10 routinely gets multiple bids and they come from a fairly diverse set of teams. They also have history and fan bases.
The Horizon is a very good conference that may be coming into it's own. But the A-10 is a step up, like it or not. Perhaps we'll get there. But to do that will take multiple h-league teams having sustained success.
No reason to fret about our coach. Unless you have a big checkbook, it's out of your hands. And it's all speculation.

I just read the Dayton Daily News. Read many suggestionbs about a new Coach. Some of the suggestions were pretty absurd: Jerry Tarkania, Bruce Pearl, Bobby Knight, Pat Knight. BUT I did not see Rob's name suggested ONCE!

BUT I did not see Rob's name suggested ONCE! That's because it's ridiculous. And I thought I killed this earlier today. Just trust me.

I don't believe Jeter is going anywhere. I'm simply saying that as things currently exist, with the exception of Butler, the Dayton situation is more attractive than the other HL schools from a purely basketball perspective.

I am with you gman--The A-10 is a better situation overall than the Horizon.

Chris Collins is on that list. He's got to get his chance one of these days. My favorite (and only?) Chris Collins story: His dad Doug is doing commentary for the 1991 NBA draft. Von McDade gets drafted in the second round by the New Jersey Nets. Doug Collins' comment? "At least my son Chris can go to bed now. His favorite player has been drafted."

All one has to know of JSONLINE is that they carry Eugene Kane's Black racist columns. I stopped reading everyting but the Sports. And then ran into the We want Bruce Pearl back posters. So I gave them up entirely. I would call your debut on this board unimpressive. I couldn't agree more with you Fran

This just in:
Rob Jeter is reported to be the leading candidate for the Head Coaching job at Herzog Online University. The school is reportedly offering him a significant salary increase, including a cut of the ad hit money it makes off its course site. The offer also includes a major computer upgrade and a free router.
Analysts say that Herzog would be a step up for Jeter. Because it's an online school, he won't have to worry about an arena since there isn't one as all of the school's games are played on the net. With tens of thousands watching from their computers, he would also be guaranteed a bigger fan base.
The job is not without its drawbacks though. Sources say it's not clear how well the school's star player, Chip Mcgraw, will recover from his carpal tunnel surgery caused by too many mouse clicks to fill in answers during finals week.
Buzz Manninghamski, Herzog's AD refused to comment on the reports only saying that he is engaged in an intensive search for an African American coach who recently won the Coach of the Year award in a midwestern mid-major league.
Jeter also refused to comment saying only that his computer isn't even on and that the Broadband services in Milwaukee are first rate and he wants to continue to use them with his family.

I think it's Herzig, but still funny. They're trying to compete with the University of Phoenix, who is the Duke of online basketball.

dibs on starting the following threads: Jeter to Missouri St? Jeter to Missouri? Jeter to St. Bonaventure? Jeter to Kent St? Jeter to Wyoming? Jeter to Oklahoma? Jeter to Paris St. Germaine? Jeter to Tel Aviv? Jeter to US Paralympic Team? Jeter to Maryland Ave Montessori School? I thought RJ was going to be the next coach at Menomonee Falls HS. At least he'd have the opportunity to coach a highly touted recruit...that is, if he returns to the Falls.
