It was a good ride but it's over. Thanks to Ant and Tone for all the thrills they gave us. It's too bad it had to end like this. This was a game we could have and should have won.

Just got back from the game. Rebounding and turnovers killed the Panthers. Walsh-Ryan Arena is a dump. The Cell is world class arena to that Big Ten Barn. It was so hot in there. I wouldn't classify the arena itself as a dump, but every little thing was woefully out of date. No apparent air conditioning (they had fans running), a terrible scoreboard by 1995's standards with some darkened light bulbs, wooden bleachers, Rupp Arena-quality sound system, everything. The arena itself is a looking-glass historical artifact like Hinkle, and if they make a few changes -- put in real seats, change the scoreboard, take down those damn banners and open it up a bit -- it could be really nice. I suppose turnovers and rebounding killed us, but we shot five free throws the entire game. Northwestern accumulated one team foul in the second half. The officiating was relatively lenient, but still very costly. Also, Northwestern's student section was dead silent most of the time, and seemed to feel no shame in the fact that we were louder than them.

I'm certainly in no mood to pick over the bones of this loss tonight. There's plenty of time (far too much, really) during the offseason for such reflections.
Instead, I'd like to say how pleased I am with all the first-rate individuals associated with this program. They do us proud every time they take the court, engage in conversation or take a blue-book exam. It's so nice not to have to fret over APRs any longer.
As we exited Welsh-Ryan tonight, a handful of Northwestern fans took the time to compliment our team on how hard it fought to the end of the game. Rather than folding up their tent, as many other teams might have done, the guys kept rallying until there wasn't enough time left against such a heady, well-coached team.
Thanks to Ant, Tone, Jerry and Mitch for their dedication and commitment to the program and especially to Ant for all the thrills he gave us these last four years. It's hard to recognize him today from the player he was back in 2007.
As for the future, it appears to me to be very bright. I can't wait to see James Haarsma, Shaq Boga, J.J. Panoske and Evan Richard in a Panther uniform. I'm as eager for basketball tonight as I was on Nov. 1.
Three cheers for my favorite team.

They could've moved those banners. They block the scoreboard.
I'm still glad my wife and I went. The bus ride was nice.

After watching a full season of Kaylon Williams, I have this to say about Shaq Boga:
Not only will he be valuable in spotting Kaylon minutes, which seemed more and more necessary down the stretch, but he'll be exceedingly valuable as a change of pace. Kaylon is slow, slow, slow, and Shaq is lightning-fast. It'll be interesting to see how both we and our opponents rectify the difference in pace between the two.

Dont know what to say about the game itself yet, So i'll wait till tomorrow. But a few points: First: They need a new scoreboard. and less wooden bleachers. Hell, Carthage college in Kenosha has better facilities than NW. Second, Everythine I herad the PA announcer say "Juice ..", I wanted to shoot myself. Third: Their student section was organized on the usual crap, but not at all excited to be there, and not all that loud. I was sorta disappointed. Lastly, If any of thewir community is reading this, Thank you for being classy fans. I was complimented by numerous NW fans tonight after the game, and many of the fans commented on our performance.

And one thing I was pleasantly surprised to see so often in this game: fast break opportunities. That we converted.
Northwestern's fan base isn't very substantial, but the ones that are there are generally cool. They've got Mike Wilbon to their credit.

It was nice to get compliments from the fans about our playing.
The game was disappointing, however.

Not sure why we ignored Ant Hill on so many possessions. To the Cats' credit they played well defensively in the post, but we fared well when we moved the ball inside (when we didn't force it there). More trips to the post means more fouls and more FTs as well as taking pressure off the long range game.
The refs were bad, but didn't cost us the game. Another example of just making the same call on either end. Very frustrating when that happens.
The fans were 99% class. The students did well with what they had. It wasn't the biggest student section and they filled it well. Could've been louder but again they had limited voices. My only complaint was on the way out I heard 'they beat up on Little Sisters of the Poor'. I kept my silence, but it really goes to show how out of touch many high-majors fan bases are.
The trip itself was fun. We'll definitely have to do more of them. Squeezing under those lower bridges was especially memorable. A regular season championship and post season tournament bid made for a really fun season. Hate to see it end on a game in which we could have played so much better, but I'm already looking forward to next year. Go Butler and CSU in their respective tournaments.

I think Welsh-Ryan is a great place to watch a game. If I had the time and lived somewhere in northern Chicago or the near north suburbs, I'd go to every game I could at NU and at Loyola. Both are easy to get to on the El or even by car, tickets are plentiful and its easy to get up close to the game. Hoops heaven.
I had some very pleasant interactions with NU fans last night. Very hospitable place.

If it can't be the Panthers then it's gotta be the Vikings. Go CSU. Represent the Horizon.
