Get out of here!!!!!! The Panthers won??!! Between running my kids to all there activities today, and Packer fever....I totally forgot about the game. I just can't believe they beat Butler at Hinkle. Someone explain this team to me.......................... It really simple lol We just kinda hung around all game and never fell far behind till we took the lead midway through the 2nd half. Then we played even and took the game in overtime. We matched them toe to toe most of the way! It was a great game!

I think that the injuries to Lonnie and Jerard actually worked in our favor, forcing our coach to tighten the rotation to nine. This and Anthony's severe foul issues compelled Rob to play Kyle 23 (mostly productive) minutes.
Aside from 18 minutes against Cleveland State, Kyle hasn't played more than 12 minutes in any of our so-called gong games. I advocate more minutes for the freshman from Randolph.

Hill's foul trouble actually more compelled Wolf to get significant minutes than Kelm. Seriously, 19 minutes for Wolf. (Unfortunately he ended up with 4 fouls too.) And I'll tell you what, if Wolf would spot up and pull the trigger on the 10-footers, he'd be pretty serviceable. He's automatic from 10 in shootaround.
Kyle easily put together his best game as a Panther. Made each of his 2-point attempts, pulled down 4 boards. Next year, with enough offseason work, this is about what I expect him to be averaging.
I really liked the three-forward bench. Valpo did it against us. It works.

I couldn't believe it, had the game running on my laptop with sound muted to focus on the packers game. Will have to watch this one tomorrow and enjoy it. Happy as hell to be wrong that the team couldn't win at Butler in the regular season.

So I just watched the "game recap" video on HLN's website. I understand that it's a Butler feed, but really?!? Not ONE single Panthers highlight? Last time I checked, we won this game! Clean it up, HLN.

Do yourself a favor and watch the Internet broadcast. Especially take note of Ralph Reiff's comments about the team's chemistry and leadership late in the opening half. Interesting.
Ready for more weirdness?
Before the year began, I projected the Panthers to be 5-5 at this stage in the league season.

The replay of the game is at 11:30 on TWC Sports 32.
The turning point of the game is when Jeter used a timeout out of the blue in in the first half. At that point the Panthers were shooting long jumpers and missing( I think 5 in a row) After that point the Panthers were driving to the basket, cutting to the basket, taking closer shots to the basket. The shooting % went from 31% to over 50%.

"The turning point of the game is when Jeter used a timeout out of the blue in in the first half."
Com'on now. That's not possible. I've been told Jeter is poor coach and shouldn't be a D1 coach.

Jeter has obviously assembled a team with talented players at the top of the rotation and capable of beating anyone, even the defending national runners-up, on a given day.
Where Jeter struggles is in getting the team organized and motivated on a consistent basis and adjusting to what the other team is doing. The Panthers still at times appear as though they didn't receive the memo on the date and time of the game.
What goes up must come down. Spinning wheel got to go 'round.

I'm amazed he used a timeout. He loves to carry over at least 2-3 for the next game.... Good win, but even UIC beats an Illinois team from time to time. Hell, poor man beat Wisconsin last year.

By the way, this was Butler's fourth conference home loss in the last six years.
The others were by 57-54 to Cleveland State on March 10, 2009; by 71-67 to Loyola on Feb. 15, 2009; and by 75-71 to Loyola on Feb. 22, 2007.

What a nice surprise to see this score. I completely abandoned any thought of even checking in yesterday.
What's enjoyable is that they won without the blowout factor. It's nice to see this team go toe-to-toe with Butler and get a W.
Seems all we can do this season is expect the unexpected. And with that said, I've thrown out any expectations for what should happen. I'm just going to sit back and enjoy the bball, whatever the outcome.

Realistically, this team is pretty much right where I think most of us thought they would be. Beating Butler twice kind of made up for the losses at home to Loyola & on the road at Valpo. I don't think many of us expected Valpo to be as good as they are this year.
But, if we can somehow put together consistent good games at home and POSSIBLY get to 8-5 before going back on the road... we have a good chance of getting to 10-5 with a couple wins during our trip to Chicago. I know I'm thinking very optimistically, but this team has shown that they have the talent to go on a big run. We have a tough road ahead of us, but a #1 or #2 seed is definitely not out of the question.
Like the JSOnline article says... let the roller coaster ride continue!

Everyone's Entitled To My Opinion

Again. This team is inconsistent. "Not that good" depends on opinion. Who among us had us winning in Hinkle? Add the home win vs Butler, winning at Detroit, beating UNI and pushing MU to the wire proves this team is good enough to win the HL. The Mr. Hyde to it all is WMU, Loyola, DePaul, and the games that we quit 5 minutes in. There's multiple examples of how bipolar this team is. Bad teams pull the occasional upset. If yesterday was an outlier, that'd be one thing. But it wasn't. Nobody should be all that surprised, based on what this team has been during the highs.
