No SuperKing, THIS team doesn't suck at all...

What was the deal with Matt Howard tonight? At times he looked like the next-generation Maurice Lucas or Rick Mahorn.
With Butler already trailing by double digits, Howard tried to physically take out two Panthers on separate plays tonight. I don't recall him being a dirty player (a flopper, yes, but this dirty?).
Howard earned his fourth foul when he, literally, did a shoestring tackle of Ja'Rob in a scramble for a loose ball. Howard was already out of the play and it was a dangerous move.
Then, there was no call when Howard gave Ant a colossal hip check under the Butler basket that sent Ant stumbling to the ground in great pain.
As Ant hobbled back to the bench, he screamed at Kelm to make sure he kept Howard in check. I don't think Howard scored the rest of the way, thanks to Kelm and a gutsy return to action by Ant.
These are side notes to a great Panther victory (but also an indication of what to expect in a hostile Hinkle come Jan. 23).

I fully expect the most hostile "welcome" we've ever gotten at Hinkle.
Can't wait.

Ryan Allen, in my opinion, is a game changer. He may not be the biggest threat offensively, but his tough defense makes it difficult for other teams to even get a shot off. Just having that hand in your face when taking a three can make the difference between a team getting hot and a team staying cold. I hope to see Allen all over Fletcher this Saturday.

Just wanted to respond to one thing here:
Matt Howard is not a "dirty" player. He plays on the edge, which means that sometimes the contact he creates results in injuries, his or someone else's. With his unbridled hustle, he's the kind of guy you love to have on your team but love to hate as an opponent.
He is a first-class flopper, but all of that stuff is within the confines of the rules. It's up to the officials to turn a blind eye to that stuff, as they did last year in the UTEP game and again last night on the Panthers' second possession. Good for them.

There are so many things to say, but I'll stick to this:
We blew them out due to our great shooting, and it is exciting to see what this team can do when it has a good offensive game.
But...what excites me is that we would have won even without a top-notch shooting effort. Had we shot 8-23 from 3 point distance (34.7%), and 10-24 from 2 point (41.6%) they STILL would have won by 8.
That is pretty impressive against the top team in our league.

The top team in our league seems to be in Cleveland now a days.

Wait until Friday at Hinkle.
As I told some classy Butler fans on my way out last night, I fully expect an angry and focused Bulldog team, playing at home, against the Vikings.
By the way, Butler's "gong" games are Milwaukee, Louisville and Evansville, though that was without glue guy Ronald Nored.

With nothing else going on in local sports team playing. Every local news channel had highlights of the game.
Good to see Mark Belling at the game.

I guess Wayne Larrivee was at the game, too ... at approximately what time did he yell out "There is your DAGGER!" ?

No SuperKing, THIS team doesn't suck at all... Please realize the difference between sucking and inconsistency. As of now, our foreseeable schedule reads like this: @ GB (1-3) vs UIC (0-3) vs Loyola (1-3) @ Valpo (2-1) @ Butler (2-1) vs Detroit (2-1) vs WSU (2-1) vs GB @ Loyola @ UIC vs Valpo @ CSU @ YSU IF we continue to perform at a level that hovers anywhere in the vicinity of the way we're playing now, it's very possible we could have a 5-2 HL record going into that road game at Valpo, and even if we drop that game and Butler -- which should be the most vicious Horizon League environment since the Pearl/Lickliter days -- the ensuing homestand and Chicago road trip put an 11-4 or 10-5 record within arm's length heading into our game against Cleveland State, which I won't even attempt to make a prediction for. (Those last two games will be absolutely crucial for seeding, but either way I see some sort of end-of-the-year letdown at Youngstown.) If not, we'll settle back into a .500 record and prepare for a key tournament push. Considering how well we played down the stretch last year and our steady year-to-year improvement, I'm siding with the former scenario. Besides, I like being an optimist.

No SuperKing, THIS team doesn't suck at all... Please realize the difference between sucking and inconsistency. Are we really going to get into this again? My reaction at the time was my opinion of the effort and ability of the team on the floor. I'll never back down from what I said. It was true. Saying "this team sucks" was never some comment that should hold for all eternity. The indefensible facts are that they sucked then, and are playing quite well now. If you want to turn this into an "I'm a better fan than you" argument, then good for you...
