I do like some of the determination that I saw at the end of the game, but this was definitely a lucky win. There are some eye sores on the stat sheet. Opponents shooting % and points in the paint is again way too high. Winning lucky and still not playing your game means it's likely nothing has really changed for this team as far as knowing how to run their system. I'm sure a win helps them feel better, and a road win at that. If we had several more wins before this one, you'd be calling it a determined effort and praising them. It feels quite empty given how they've been playing before this.....

Williams bricks two crunch time free throws, misses a layup, then hits a desperation, 27-foot 3. Ladies and Gentleman, your 2011 Milwaukee Panthers! Nice comment, did you watch the game. I said Detroit was playin like they had it won and we could steal it. Yes we should have put it away but they didn't quit. They also couldn't put it away. As for Kaylon, try playing the second half without him and it's a blowout. Why I am even responding to this is beyond me. We have hardly any showing in the paint and then miss bunnies. If Kaylon doesn't bring the ball up I'd like to know our t.o ratio to possessions.. no, I don't want to know.

A win is a win... this was the kind of exciting game/ending that I think a lot of us needed to get our "spirit" back. Another 20 point loss would have been tough to swallow.
Now we are 2-2 in league play with a couple tough games vs Butler and @gb, followed by 2 winnable home games.
This team might still be inconsistent at times, but every win for these guys only improves their morale and confidence. Great start to 2011.

Lashmo, are you related to Williams or something? You would think he's the second coming of Isiah Thomas from what you describe. He shoots 20% from three, 30-something percent overall, 60% from the line, and he can't handle the double-team. Do you even watch him for God's sake?

It is a great start to 2011. It'll be interesting to see how they come out and play on Monday. So far...its been a real roller coaster ride. I just wish this team would consistently play up to their potential.

Detroit seems similar to UWM. The pieces are there, but something is lacking to deliver a consistent performance. It really seems to be as simple as this for both us and Detroit. When it is clear that players are not the issue and occasional glimpses of what could be are shown on the court one has to point the finger at the coach. We could go and beat Butler next and it would not raise my expectations for the season since we could easily follow it up shortly with a loss to UIC at home.

UWM97 I don't think you watch the games and no I am not related but I follow this team a lot closer than you think and for sure a lot closer than you. If you had you would know he was not recruited to shoot. The coaches and everyone knew that but you I guess. I am saying they are doomed against pressure when the ball is in other hands. That is the bad thing and I agree that they DO have trouble vs. press. I look at his assist to T.O. ratio so you tell me who brings it up. There are many other areas that need help. I think Tony is coming along great and next year with James and Tony and Kyle (coming along nicely) there will be an inside game as opposed to living by the three. When Ant plays like a beast this team is still hard to beat. By the way your ignoramus point would be equal to me asking why Ant doesn't take more 3"s - his attempts are down. Can't argue about dismal FT % I give you that.

A lot of the same lead to a very different result. The threes fell tonight, but that's a hard thing to rely on; especially with a team as bipolar as this. The first half saw 3 of 13 shots go in for an unimpressive 23.1%. But then the second half saw 11 of 21 shots find the nylon, or 52.4%. Another 2 of 3 in overtime, and the team shot a very impressive 43.2% from beyond the arc.
When we're hot, we can stand toe to toe with anyone in this conference. But when the 3s aren't falling, we need to find new ways to put points on the board. There were flashes of this throughout the season: set plays to work Ant into the middle and/or open lanes for easier looks. But it seems like whether we're hot or not, we fall back on hitting the 3.
Establishing more consistent post presence and/or lane creation will be what saves this team from relying on the unreliable deep shot.

The women's team going into yesterday's game was 2nd in the nation in FT percentage. Seriously, have them show the men's team how to shoot free throws. It's much easier to make free throws and jumpers when the ball is so much smaller. I watched the second half and overtime while recovering this afternoon, and I'm glad we got the win. The defense was not good and the team was completely reliant on shooting 3's and making them at a higher rate than normal. I still can't believe McCallum didn't have Detroit foul at the end to keep Kaylon from having a chance to tie the game.

I didn't see the game and so can't comment specifically on it, but please remember that there are good 3s and bad 3s.
Though as a rule you don't want to shoot 37 3s in a game, it's not automatically a bad thing. Sometimes, the other team decides that's how it's going to beat you and so you counter with good 3s off spacing, ball reversal and post touches.
If the opponent elects to pack the lane and has significant size, sometimes these shots are your best option.
As in football, you take what your opponent gives you.

Williams squeezed in there and got the ball and shot off before they could get to him. Awesome. In the first half, I complained about Williams play. In the second half, the only complaints I had were the missed free throws.

god (uncapitalized for reason ), The entire team went unconscious and open or not were drilling nothing but net on 3's from all over the floor in the second half.
