the klotsche center portrays mediocrity (that's putting it nicely), so how can one expect the team to play any better. i felt an overwhelming sense of apathy and a general lack of excitement before the game even started and by all means that is not any one particular persons fault.
it's a result of the environment. i'm a firm believer that the spaces we occupy encourage/promote peoples behavior. the klotsche center does not portray the program we desire/have. it feels almost impossible to sustain excitement for an entire game. i don't blame season ticket holders for not showing up for a game at the KC (lack of amenities, seating, adjacent location to pre/post game meeting spots, and seriously we're freaking on campus and where is the bookstore with a good selection of gear for people to buy) i'm positive that i won't attend another men's game there. my time could've been better spent in studio.
I've attended almost every game since '04-05 (my freshman year) i have never once booed our players. now as i near the end of my graduate studies, i am disappointed to say that i broke that rule i have with myself.

Agree with Paul... the people in Athletics without exception are great. They do not always have the most robust budget to work with and work their butts off. It takes a village and they do the best they can although last night, come on... could have had a bit more imagination per my previous e mailsl to spice up the experience a bit...otherwise this is a collective result for which alumni, media, team, coaches, Athletics Marketing, UWM administration, students all collectively have contributed or not contributed....I am not that worried about our team. We will be alright but holy cow... no MORE KLOTSCHE Sometimes your best isn't good enough, that's why people can work really hard and still be fired.

I disagree - I remember the 2003 game vs Green Bay at Klotsche and the place was buzzing. Klotsche is by no means an acceptable D1 facility, but we routinely clobbered teams there in front of boisterous fans in the early 00's. While the crowd was miniscule last night, it certainly had no reason to cheer given the joke of a shooting performance.

Does anyone know when they tape the Rob Jeter Show? Talked alot about the new players, Italy, Northern Iowa and the Marquette game coming up.
Jeter also said that Evan Richard is going to redshirt this season.

With regard to student attendance, it's not fair to totally blame either the AD or the students.
Some students don't give a dam. That's the case at EVERY University not just ours. A winning program will help but it's not the only thing that will.
I was at an Alumni meeting where a woman said she is totally into sports. She said that ESPN is her most watched channel BUT she NEVER went to a game as a student. She said she didn't know when they were or even how to get the info on where they were. Someone I work with who is taking night courses told me the same t hing. She also said she'd love to go to a game.
The fact is that out of a student body of 30,000 plus, there are certainly enough interested students to be able to get 300 or so students to consistently attend games. What is that 1 out of a hundred? You can't tell me that not even 1% of the student body is interested in participating in some school spirit.
The trick is to make them want to come, to make it easy for them to come and to make it easy for them to get info on when the games are. Info on schedules, how to get the free admission etc. must blanket the campus.
Yes students could make more of an effort to find the info, but the AD and the University has done a poor job of marketing to the student body. Hearing from two sports fans that they would like to go but didn't know when the games are or that they are free, tells me that the word is not getting out.
Keep in mind that the students voted to increase their fees to help pay for Athletics. That hardly indicates a lack of interest.
It's like any other product, t he message has to be branded and it has to be out t here repeatedly for it to be heard. That's why you see the same commercials on TV over and over again. Marketing people will tell you it takes 20 to 30 times for a message to sink in and another 20 or so to motivate people to buy the product.
Yes, the AD doesn't have enough money but then again who does? They need to be creative and better use the resources they have. Today's student attendees are tomorrow's season ticket holders

Just a point of comparison ... I don't remember there being a problem with students showing up for games against Butler, UIC and Green Bay at the Klotsche Center back in the 2002-03 season.
Win and put an exciting product on the court, they'll come. Give students a reason to give a damn about the team. Sorry but that's the nature of school spirit on that campus.

That's true BUT when the program is not doing as well then other things need to be tried. Remember even though Wisconsin sucked in both FB and Basketball students still went to the games.
The point is that you can't sit back and say "Well until we make the NCAA the students wont' come." That's an excuse.
How helpful was the message the AD sent out saying the game was on Wednesday? We, the AD, Administration and yes Alumni, have to work harder to get their attention and their interest.

We all have to work harder (everyone involved with trying to make Panther Hoops the best program it can possibly be). PM me if there is something I can do in the way of volunteering for the Alumni Association or the AD. I would like to help however I can.
