Looks like that dude who was on here months ago calling Koonce a fraud, empty suit, etc was right about him, huh?

I don't think you should assume anyone here could tell you much. Some of us have known of tensions behind the scenes, but I doubt any of us knew this kind of action was likely to happen at this time.

Updated: www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/91722689.html"During Koonce’s leave, Dave Gilbert, Senior Assistant to the Chancellor, will serve as the Acting Director of Athletics," University spokesman Tom Luljak said in a news release. "In Koonce's absence, the Panther Athletic program will continue to provide strong support for student athletes."

It's also being referred to as a "confidential personnel matter" now.

And just to clarify ... "personnel" not "personal"

I had heard that Koonce went to Santiago and wanted to fire Botham AND Jeter and start fresh.

It seems there's more misinformation out there at the moment than information.
All anyone can truly say for sure is that it's a "confidential personnel matter" pertaining to Koonce and not to our coaches.
We should focus on moving forward.

I had heard that Koonce went to Santiago and wanted to fire Botham AND Jeter and start fresh. Why would he need Santiago's permission for this? As the AD he should be able to fire anyone in the athletic department. While I am kind of off the "fire Jeter" bandwagon, I wouldn't have had an issue with Koonce firing him. As the AD he should want to make his mark on the program. Lets forget all this administrative leave for a second. If you were hired to do a job and your succes at that job was dependent on a division who had a leader who you didn't think would do a good enough job, why wouldn't you fire that person if after almost a year of observation you didn't think that person was the right man for the job? Koonce's success as AD is pretty much tied to a couple of sports but none as much as Men's BB.

Too easy to speculate repoman...Very few people know ALL the details of the situation with George Koonce, the athletic department, and UWM... Let's give this time. Maybe the details will come out, maybe the university will just move on. Either way, we need to move forward...

I really don't care to know the details. Work it out or get rid of him, don't care either way. I don't think it's any of my business, and I have more important things to worry about.
Are any student athletes leaving in any sport because of this? No? Fine.
All that matters to me at this point, is Jeter has put together a very nice team for this upcoming year. Can't wait to see all the pieces on the floor.

Wow. (looks like) Koonce lasted about as long as one of Jeter's recruits.

Wow. (looks like) Koonce lasted about as long as one of Jeter's recruits. Just another in a long line of thoughtless, degrading posts by you yuhayden... Your sarcasm and degrading posts verify you are not a fan of the program. Thank you for stopping by, but please, keep moving. We get it...you're a smart a**...

Now I see some here calling for us to "forget that Koonce is on administrative leave."
Isn't this thread devoted to the fact that "Koonce was placed on indefinite administrative leave pertaining to a confidential personnel matter and is under investigation?"
Let's all give that another read.
