I really hope word is being spread about the MU game. It would be an absolute embarrassment to not have the student section filled for this. I feel like there will probably be LOTS of MU fans buying the regular seats, so a strong student section will be extremely important for the team to have that home court advantage. It's over Thanksgiving Break...I wouldn't be shocked if it's not. In fact it probably won't be. Not sure if UWM had a choice on the date, but they clearly weren't thinking if they did.

They were probably forced to...but it's the Sat after Thanksgiving, so there still should be quite some attending...try to get as many as you can to come...

It's not like the game is on the Friday night after Thanksgiving. It's the Saturday night. I think more students than you would think will come back early to come to the game.

I'm sure they would if they knew it was happening I don't think that's the case here. If students don't know about this game, well it's ignorance on their part.

No, it's sh*tty marketing by our athletic department. It all comes back to the lack of marketing, and it's not all the fault of them - they don't have a lot of money. But that shouldn't stop them from coming up with creative ways to get students at the game.

You can only hold students hands for so long without some blame going on them for not knowing what's going on. It's not that difficult to find out what's going on with your own school.

Other than an e-mail and a facebook event about picking up vouchers I have seen nothing on campus, the dorms, or even the KC promoting the MU game. Something is wrong with that. The casual fan does not have the schedule memorized like we do.

You have to be IN THEIR FACE about getting them to the basketball games, and repping the school. The onus is always on us to go out and get them. We can never sit on our heels and say "we can't always hold their hand." If things don't work, that doesn't mean you don't do them again. You analyze why they didn't work and you fix the problem for next time. I fear that our marketing is going to fall off if we aren't proactive about it.

Other than an e-mail and a facebook event about picking up vouchers I have seen nothing on campus, the dorms, or even the KC promoting the MU game. Something is wrong with that. The casual fan does not have the schedule memorized like we do. Even the e-mail was awful. There was nothing about it talking about WHY there are vouchers for these games. This is what I would have written: WMU: Western Michigan comes to town the night before Thanksgiving break, but you won't find them at the Cell. That's because the game will be played ON CAMPUS in the KLOTSCHE CENTER, the FIRST regular season game in SEVEN YEARS to be played in the Panthers' on-campus home. The Klotsche Center is very close to a sell-out, and FREE student space is limited, so the ticket office will be giving out vouchers that MUST be carried for admission to the game, as we can not accommodate all students that want to go to the game. MU: For the FIRST TIME EVER, the Milwaukee Panthers will play cross-town rival Marquette of the BIG EAST at HOME! The Black and Gold frenzy is Saturday night following Thanksgiving at 8 p.m. Tickets are selling out fast, and 2,500 student vouchers to attend the game FOR FREE are going away even faster! YOU CAN'T GET IN WITHOUT THE VOUCHER for the biggest home game of 2010! There was no excitement, and also no mention of the last time we used the voucher system for the Wisconsin game, where 2,500 UWM students made a golden wall on one baseline. If they knew the last time was a resounding success (and one of the largest student sections in the country), they'd be more likely to come. Beyond the e-mail, they need to PAPER THE CAMPUS with black and gold for EVERY SINGLE GAME. This is the most important aspect, to ALWAYS BE IN FRONT OF THE STUDENTS' EYES. They need Black and Gold POUNDED INTO THEIR RETINAS. I don't know WHY I NEED TO KEEP USING CAPS. THIS SHOULDN'T BE THAT HARD. LET'S GET IT DONE.

Got an email today saying the game against WMU will be a retro game, with retro jerseys from the 80's, which will be auctioned off after the game. Does anybody know what the 80's style jerseys looked like.

Off of that, I think they'll wear the 1988-89 versions, since that team went to the DII Elite Eight.

I'm gonna go the opposite Hack. I think they'll wear the '81-'82 version, because I believe that was the same picture they used in their television ad. Sure wish I could go to this game...even if it is in a high school gym.
By the way...awesome memories in that pdf...

Either way, this is a great idea to connect the present to the past traditions of UWM basketball.
Kudos!
