With a new AD coming in and not being a Jeter fan, I put a list a new prospects for coaches see what you think: #1 Jim Catalano NJIT as coach 400-146 .733 winning percentage. #2 Rick Herdes UCI 173-52 in 7 yrs, #3 Jeffrey Brustad Monore College NY, #4 the ever elusive Kareem Abdul Jabar: As of the 2007-2008 season, Abdul-Jabbar still holds a number of individual records at UCLA — remarkable, in part, because at the time freshmen were ineligible for varsity basketball:
Highest career Scoring Average: 26.4 Most career Field Goals: 943 Most season Points: 870 (1967) Highest season Scoring Average: 29.0 (1967) Most season Field Goals: 346 (1967) Most season Free Throw Attempts: 274 (1967) Most single game Points: 61 Most single game field goals: 26 (vs. Washington State, 2/25/67)
Abdul-Jabbar has worked as an assistant for the Los Angeles Clippers and the Seattle SuperSonics, helping mentor, among others, their young centers, Michael Olowokandi and Jerome James. Abdul-Jabbar was the head coach of the Oklahoma Storm United States Basketball League in 2002, leading the team to the league's championship that season, but he failed to land the head coaching position at Columbia University a year later. He then worked as a scout for the New York Knicks. Finally, on September 2, 2005, he returned to the Lakers as a special assistant to Phil Jackson to help the Lakers' centers, and in particular their young draftee Andrew Bynum. Abdul-Jabbar's influence has been credited with Bynum's emergence as a top level NBA center. Abdul-Jabbar has also served as a volunteer coach at Alchesay High School on the Fort Apache Indian Reservation in Whiteriver, Arizona since 1998.
Now I'm some big stud center recruit and Uncle Lew walks in the door asking me to play on his DIV 1 team. Not rocket science ladies.

Is this a serious post? Why is there a search for a new coach? NJIT has yet to win a divison 1 basketball game yet you want their coach? Kareem???

Michael Jordan isn't busy. Let's add him to the list too.
Maybe Brett Favre as well. He may actually retire. He loves Wisconsin. Sounds like a perfect match.

The list of potential coaches aside, the search for one needs to begin. I have never seen a person who has a worse understanding of how to handle game situations in my life!
Every game I go to and watch, the other team has guys with 4 fouls with more than 10 minutes left in the game. They ALWAYS make it to the end of the game with no problem, and members of our team foul out when the game is critical and the members of the other team with 4 fouls make plays that kill us! Why can't he learn to attack the guys with the 4 fouls? It's a win-win situation! Either they back off and we get an easy basket or they get called for the foul and they are our of the game!
Also, he needs to find a happy medium with substitutions! Last year, he never let the team get into a rhythm cause he changed them every 30 seconds. Now, he never subs and we have only 7 players who are the only ones playing and will be gassed out by the end of January!
At this point, I don't care who takes his place, so long as he is not the coach of this team anymore! He has taken our program and embarassed it and the school. He needs to leave! By force or by choice, it doesn't matter!

Funny how we never see the trolls after victories.

Maybe we could get Geoff Jenkins to coach us!
Lighten up though all, as uwm97 said, last night was an awesome game to watch. Just sucks we happened to be on the losing end. You're not going to win them all (even Top 25 schools slip up- see Boston College (ONE GAME after knocking off the Tarheels!)).
This was a big game, but not a must win. Good things can come out of a loss, and, currently at 9-6 (5-1) we've got SIE-Edwardsville and Youngstown State coming to town before Cleveland State.
I'm still fuming about last night too.. But it's over. On to SIU-E.
Oh, and that trip to Green Bay just got a lot more meaning....

I don't understand a lot of the posts on the board today. As Fran and VictorPanther stated in their posts, last night was a great game of basketball! Yes we lost and that really sucks. Especially to UW-GB on National TV. But, did any of you really expect us to go undefeated this season? And if the coaches weren't doing such a good job this year (5-0 start before last nights game) would you still be so upset about the loss? It's one loss so far. Losses happen. No, I'm not happy about losing to UW-GB and poor man on National TV, but we showed fight and persistence. We came back after struggling to close an 11 point deficit all night long to finally have a chance to steal it with 3.5 seconds left. And trust me, poor man was sweating bullets and dirtying his shorts out of worry and fear those last 3.5 seconds. Some points I'd like to comment on (and I'm sure I'll get heckled for, but here it goes):
-We tried going after Tillema and Schachtner all night. That's how Tone got to the line so much. Unfortunately, though, the majority of those match ups ended with the foul going against us if called.
-We substitute too much no ones happy, we cut down our substitutions to get a rhythm going no ones happy. I don't understand. I agree, I'd like to see some of the other players get off the bench, too. But I trust and support the decisions our coaching staff makes.
-How is he an embarrassment to our school? We have started the conference 5-1!! 5-1!! How is that an embarrassment?
-I don't completely blame the refs for the loss last night. We were extremely cold the first half and start of the second half. But it does make a game more difficult when one of the 3 refs makes 23 calls and 20 of those 23 are against us. Also, when was the last time we won a game Lamont officiated? I don't know what that little man has against us!
-I am so frustrated with the Horizon League. This was a huge game on a national stage and this is the officiating crew they sent us?! They need to do something overall to improve the officiating within the entire Horizon League, because it sucks!
Here are some positives I took away from last night:
-Great crowd turnout! That was amazing! Great student section! Way to go Jimmy!
-Great comeback by our guys. They never gave up no matter how tired, no matter how bad the calls or through the no calls, they kept fighting.
-The bench was fired up! Great to see the guys jumping up, yelling, cheering, and smiling!!!
-We were able to show a national audience (even though it wasn't our best game) that you can't count us out, no matter how down we are!
-We hit 20-20 free throws. That's a Horizon League record!!!
-No matter the number of good and bad posts on this board, it shows that people care. That's what will help build our program.
OK, sorry this got so long winded. Didn't intend on that. I'm just so frustrated because it was a great game between two college rivals and it's only 1 loss! Come on guys we are 5-1!! When was the last time that happened in conference for us. Let's be proud and savor this fact. We'll come back Monday and defeat SIU-Edwardsville, get our guys confidence back up and kick some conference butt on Thursday. Let's strive for the same turnout Thursday to root our team on for a win!! GO PANTHERS!!!!!!!!!!!
