not exactly the white out I expected, from the students section though I had a good time even if we were fairly small in numbers, it was nice to see the come back but it was very sour leaving the Cell after losing by a free throw more or less. I predicted we would have more than 100 students, hard to tell if thats the case, but they certainly weren't standing in the students section. There were animals though, thats got to count for like 5 students a piece.

I would agree...the ones who did in fact show up did represent well...for a small crowd, it was an enthusiastic one.

they gota do something to get back to the klotsche center (max capacity 5000). why does the horizon league have an minimum attendance policy? the league cant average more than 3000/game. this has got to be embarassing for the team. imagine taking someone from out of town to one of these games. big fun.

The student section is pathetic, with the exception of the few people who do show up and are very vocal. People on this board may rip Marquette, but one thing they have going is that the students go to the games. If UWM cannot even get 1/10th of 1 percent of the student body to show up to a game, how is that going to look to potential recruits? I have been at every game except the Radford game and for the most part the students are staying away. Maybe it's not "cool" to like the Panthers this year because its a rebuilding year, but it UWM ever wants to be mentioned in the same breath as UW or Marquette, the students need to show up.

We will never go back to the Klotsche. The program is much more interested in enticing paying customers and recruits, than 37 non-paying students.

I am so disgusted at any student "fans" who claim they cannot be troubled to board a free bus to the game, but will walk to the Klotsche.
I, like many alums pay for season tickets, drive 20 miles each way, and pay to park and still manage to make every game.
All you student "fans" can stick it. Show up or shut up.
I am so tired of your collective excuses.
"I have exams." Oh, and a 3 hour break means you will fail. Right. If that's true, you don't BELONG in college.
"It's not on campus." So what? Get on the bus. It's FREE for f*ck's sake.
"It's too cold." Yeah, it's Wisconsin. That happens for about 4 months a year. I bet you don't mind when you are headed out to the bars on Water, though, are you?
"I have to work." The schedule comes out in August. It is now December. If you work for a boss that will not give you requested days off 4 months in advance, it's time to find a new job.
"But the packers are on." Yeah, at 3:00 PM. I was able to get home in WAUKESHA after the game and see it start to finish.
To all the student "fans" out there, you are an absolute embarrassment to me as an alumnus. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. You collectively disgust me.

I hate to say it, but liking the Panthers has never been "cool" on campus. Students have only ever attended for ESPN or Tournament games. So far, this is just a normal season for student interest.

I really don't think there would be any difference in student attendance between the Cell and the Klotsche Center. Its incredibly easy to get downtown, and plenty of students head to the downtown bars every weekend. Both the 15 and 30 bus lines run within 2-3 blocks of the arena, and there are also free shuttles straight to the arena.
The truth is this years early season losses to Parkside, WSU, and UAB totally deflated the student fan base. I convinced a bunch of friends to attend the exhibition games in hopes that they would become big fans, but getting it handed to us by those teams made them not want to come back. I've pleaded repeatedly with people, but the team has yet to pull off an upset or anything to get fans excited.
Being a student fan of this team is definitely not something that is considered "cool". I get some incredibly weird looks of disgust from other students when they see me decked out in Black and Gold for home games. Our school is not a perennial basketball power in the state, and nearly all students grow up being fans of other major conference basketball teams.
To bring fans into the program we need a winning team. While Bruce was a great promoter, he wouldn't have got any fans to repeatedly come if his teams couldn't win. Jeter got put in a tough spot this year, but I like some things I see and there is lots of hope for next season with the great guys we have coming in.
Until then I'll still be cheering and having a fun time in the student section.

Wow, can't wait to get my degree so then I can be part of the elite. Maybe you don't get it, the students on this board go to the games. if this is your soapbox, you might as well position it on the other side of the planet, you won't change a single thing. I wore a f*n gorilla suit to the game and was more than enthusiastic as were the people I went with. To call out the people who are front row every game is pretty lame. I'm not going to throw around names but I know someone that contributes to this board heavily that is a student and I haven't seen him in the Student Section all year. Students are there, maybe in smaller numbers, but for one reason or another they just don't want to sit in the section reserved for them. I am done making excuses for the other students but I don't agree that they can all stick it, what is wrong with simply not be interested in this basketball team, honestly they don't really have much flash yet. The Parkside game was a lot of people's first game and we weren't exactly impressive.

I don't think/hope Nighthawk's post was directed at us students who actually have been attending games and have traveled thousands of miles to see them play of the past 4 years. I was under the impression it was directed at those who make excuses about why they "can't" come. The post was over the top, but everybody needs to let of some steam sometimes. I figured I'd give him a break about the telling students to stick it and such... Art Vandelay

When I refer to "fans", I use the term sarcastically (thus the quotes).
I saw you in the gorilla suit, and complimented you, at half time in the smokers lounge, too.
My issue is the students unlike yourself, who show no interest in the supporting the exploits of their fellow students on the court.
Those multi pierced, rainbow haired, east side, elitist, freak shows who look down their noses at the "dumb jocks". Those, who in all likelihood will be working for a "dumb jock" someday. Those who will be serving food at McDonald's to "dumb jocks" as they continue to try to "find themselves" when they are 30 and living with their parents.
Perhaps I should write an open letter to the Post, but I doubt it would ever get printed.
I apologize to those of you on the board who are students and make the effort to attend the games. Keep it up. You are appreciated. While your numbers are small now, you make us alums proud.
Your bothers and sisters who don't go, however, can kiss my butt. You people make me sick, and make UWM look like a second class school.
And for those who feel that sports are a waste of money and should not be promoted, point me to the Wharton School of Business hats at Lids, and show me the televised coverage of intercollegiate forensics meets.
After the sweet 16, enrollment went up at UWM more than ever before. And it wasn't because of the success of the science lab teams experimentations, either.
Maybe if these idiots had gone to UWM when I did, and had to correct people that the M in UWM did not, in fact, stand for Madison (even in Milwaukee) would understand that the recent success of the basketball program has raised the NATIONAL profile of UWM.
I am so mad right now, I could scream.
