I agree 100%. Whoever started the 5 steps of losing a head coach or whatever it was thread nailed it too. That thread has since been deleted.... ?

If the threads yesterday were as bad as this board gets, it's still a million miles in front of most other message boards for fans.

I guess I still don't get it.
Why did he do this? Shouldn't we be asking ourselves this? This is the most important recruiting class of his life and he just sent a clear message to the recruits, AD, fans, and current players that either: 1. he might leave or 2. he's thinking about leaving.
Now I'm going to assume that the common response to my question is that he was doing a favor to his buddy at ISU. But how is this a favor? This had the makings of either being a chat session where Jeter knew he wasn't signing or a legitimate offer was made and Jeter was looking for more money. The only way I would go, if I was him, is if I would sign for more money. You can't go interview this quick when so much is at stake back home. How does Iowa State benefit by interviewing Jeter? How does Jeter actually benefit by being interviewed? His name is now out there for bigger jobs in the future but is that why he did it? Isn't this something we should be concerned about?
I guess for me it doesn't all add up. If he didn't want the job, then it is a boneheaded move to interview. Not now at least.
We were misinformed Bill. I've gone to bat for you and you just called me an @sshole? Ouch. I still love you man but that was cold.

i think this benefited everyone other than the 10 hour freak out that went on here. Pollard talked to his friend. ISU benefited because they interviewed a minority canidate and up and coming coach and frankly it never hurts to have more canidates lined up than positions open. Rob benefited because he looks like a saught after coach, gets to talk to a big 12 school, gets his name out there, and more money from UWM. and last but not least we gain because we have a coach that could be in the big 12 and he (as far as we know) thought milwaukee was a better job for now. recruits will see this and this is the begining of making milwaukee a destination rather than a stepping stone IMO. the only ones that really lost out in this whole deal was UNI

I will also look at the salary raise as being another positive for Robb and if he signs a new deal with a HUGE buyout clause then I think our benefits will be respectable. I don't think you can say us knowing that we have a Big XII quality coach is a benefit. We already knew this and the volatility of our coaching position is enough of a negative to counterbalance this. How do recruits see this as a destination given the coach has considered other places after his first year at the job?

How do recruits see this as a destination given the coach has considered other places after his first year at the job? I understand your big 12 arguement and I agree we all knew hes a high caliber coach but I think it sends out some signals of validation for a guy who everyone says and think inherited a team. Seeing his name on ESPN cant do anything negative to recruit IMO. more and more respect from incoming recruits, at least I think. I know id rather go somewhere where the coach is being offered 'major' conference jobs than somewhere like UIC where theyve had the same jimmy collins who gets no attention for big job openings. again I just think outsiders who are thinking about playing here will see that as a positive. as for him thinking about leaving? he never said he was leaving, in fact he said he wasnt even looking. he entertained an offer. this is his job and what he does. Pitino is being talked about for IU job. if he goes and interviews there but stays at louisville is that going to say he isnt commited to louisville? I dont think so but again, these are just my thoughts.

RJ would have been crazy not to at least listen to what ISU had to say. This is the simple reality of a job, any job.
UWM getting a HUGE buyout is not going to happen. The $900K that was there was only effective for his first year. Consistent with many other coaching deals, I would expect the buyout to be a certain percentage (25-50%) of what remains on RJ's contract. In other words, if he has a 5 year deal, at say $400K, for a total of $2M, the buyout may be somewhere around $500K and would decrease each year that RJ completes under the contract. This is pretty standard in the industry.

Funny bit just aired on Fox 6, teasing the Jeter segment ...
Tom Pippens is in Haidet's office talking about Bo leaving, Pearl leaving, but the third time is the charm and UWM keeping Jeter ... camera pans to Bud hugging Rob like a tree.
Story to air in a little bit.

Channel 6 said UWM did a new contract with a considerable bump in pay and it runs through the 2013 season.

I'm happy Jeter is staying and it's just validation to all you out there who were crying about him bolting and everything else. The namecalling and downright panic by trying to read in between the lines was not called for. Give the guy a break, he entertained an offer from a former co-worker. Big deal. It was the right thing for him to do. So can we turn our focus now to recruitment and the upcoming season? Thanks.

So anyone willing to wager on how much Jeter got? I think it's less than you think....but I do think that there were some other, non-salary concessions by Bud. I think it's going to strengthen our program significantly!
