It was pretty quick. He said that Rob made a commitment to his players and this program and he just didn't feel right to break that. He feels there is much more work to be done here and wanted to continue on with that work, building the program here. He just felt he had a lot more to do here at UWM with this program. All the regular good stuff you'd expect him to say.
As for the 'read between the lines' part, I certainly think that he does feel that commitment part to some extent. I also think that he feels that other things will come down the line, plus he's got a pretty decent salary for someone at his 'mid major' level. There is definitely a chance that things could go south in iowa and that really would be a loss for him. He might not be able to get into such a quality mid major program as ours as a head coach that easily. He's got the backing of Bud and the rest of the program, plus it makes it easier on his family to stay. I think Rob is a real strong character guy. This move certainly convinces me of that more than ever.

I took away some of the threads related to jeter leaving The screw it thread The jeter Replacement Thread The what did jeter really do thread I didnt take away the big ones, jsut some of the smaller ones. No need to keep some of that stuff around anymore. I left the main threads though. we can look back and see how silly we all were last night - JVK I'm voting for removing all those threads. Or going through them and deleteing the posts with attacks on Jeter.

Why this is a message board. People should be allowed to voice their thoughts. I dont have a problem with jeter knowing that we were upset that he was considering leaving us high and dry. I think no respones or a bunch of you can have him comments would be of more concern to him coming back.

Now wait, are we sure the all-knowing, king of Wisconsin Basketball Bo Ryan is ok with this?

So is this step one towards making UWM a destination rather than being a stepping stone? I hope people come out in full force next year in support of the team by filling up the cell on a more regular basis. Show coach, the players and the new recruits that this is a great place for them to be.

So in the end what happened?
Jeter got a call from a friend of his when he was at Madison to talk. Jeter listened to what he had to say, probably knowing all the time he wouldn't take the job.
Could have just been a chance for the two of them to have a few beers on Iowa State's dime.
Could have just been professional courtesy on both of their parts.
Does the NCAA have an equal opportunity clause (or whatever they call it) like the NFL? I don't like playing the "race card" but...
I believe he will build up the Panthers, then move to Madison when Bo retires, unless he turns us into a Gonzaga, which is not beyond the realm of possibility.
Let's forget this happened and move on to talking about the 2006-7 season and a 4th straight Horizon League Title.

OR...
He gets interviewed, ISU determined he is too inexperienced and the buyout clause is too steep for the hire.
Of course Rob spins it like he made the choice to stay in Milwaukee, what else can you do.
With an opportunity to jump to the Big-12 and double the salary, it seem more likely that he simply was not offered the job. Of course I want to believe he chose us.

It's like the old saying... How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?...the world will never know. (Some of you probably have no idea what I'm talking about there, and I'm probably dating myself, but oh well.)
