This message is directed at those who would have any inside information into the inner workings of the UWM athletic office. I heard from a source who works at the U.S. Cellular Arena, that UWM's contract with the Horizon League ends in 07 and that we are seeking an invite into the MVC. Can anyone confirm that this rumor might hold some weight, or is this just a load of B.S. Thanks...

Well, that would be interesting, wouldn't it. the MVC has serious potential to be the new Conference USA.

This is how you being to solve our coaching dilemmas. Move up to a top-5 conference, and coaches will not be so willing to leave.

Just confirm it now. It might alleviate a lot of angst over the next few days. This rumor has a LOT of weight.

If there is any truth to this we need to throw a ton of money at Jeter so he stays so we do not go into a downward spiral as a team while trying to make a push to move to a new, bigger, better confernece.
I agree that a move like this would be huge in helping retain coaches. I applaud such a move if it were to happen.

I'm not sure if I was supposed to post any of this information, so I apologize if I've compromised anything.

I think what UWM really needs is indeed to move to a new conferance...I even thought moving to the beligered Conferance USA would be a good move becasue the horizon league does not have much going for it.....Otherwise UWM will forever be plagued by a bad SOS come tournament time...we also need to continue to schedule a tough non conferance against the likes of Memphis and Kansas last year to prove that we do belong....

According the article on Iowa State's Coaching search the MVC coaches are actually making less than Jeter.

I believe that the Horizon League currently has more going for it than the watered-down C-USA, which essentially has Memphis, UAB, UTEP and a bunch of scrub teams like Southern Miss, Tulane, East Carolina and Central Florida.

I agree, if Calipari (sp) would bail on Memphis then that could turn into just a one bid league too.

I can see why the MVC would love to break into the Milwaukee market and would be interested in us, but should we be interested in them?
There are some advantages to the HL (I won't go into the disadvantages they've been discussed enough)
1) Traveling. Right now we can easily go to three games on the road, UIC, UW-GB and Loyola In the MVC the closest school is in Peroria
2) Domination - I think UWM is in a position to dominate the HL. We have great facilities, the largest fan base in the league and one of the best Athletic Directors in the country. I'm not saying we win easy next year but the year after that we should be back on top. No way do we dominate the MVC except maybe in soccer.
3) Expenses - It's much cheaper to be in the HL than it would be to play in MVC. There's nothing saying we can't do what Gonzaga did, dominate a mediocre league and become a national pwer doing it. Travel alone would be far more than it is now and not just for men's BB, but for all our teams. Has our revenue increased enough for us to do this?
Of course all of those advantages might be offset by
1) Increased revenue at the gate because most fans would rather see us play Witchita State, Bradley or Creighton than Wright State, Cleveland State and Detroit and with higher gate receipts on the road. However we couldn't count on home games against UW-GB, Butler and UIC every year and those are good rivals for us.
2) Increased attention that being in higher profile league brings and that means better recruiting, better teams, and a bigger fan base, but that's IF we have good coaching and a coach who can recruit well.
3) Better refs.
4) A better ability to schedule big guys like Maryland, Memphis etc.
I guess I'm saying it's not a given that we'd be better off in the MVC than we are in the HL. There's a lot that has to be considered.
