Seriously, though, I'm sure that's on the Horizon wow, not only does she provide a stupid answer BUT adds a horrible pun at the same time. jdbrew, u need to graduate so you can replace her.

5. Kevin Massiah keeps looking better and better. Agreed I'm pretty sure that Massiah's slow start had more to do with the talent level change than anything else. Going from JUCO to Memphis will jostle anyone.

Let's cut Bobbi some slack here. She made a joke.

I wish it were true that she was making a joke. Honestly, though, I feel she has no clue about recruiting and who the Panthers are eyeing.
And it's a reporter's job at a major metro newspaper to be somewhat aware of that.

She could be very well aware of that. A good reporter knows when to keep their mouth shut or they find their sources shut off.
She's a decent writer, we've been getting more coverage than ever. Look at the article on Boo. When is the last time we saw a front of the sports section article on UWM player before? And let's not forget the article on Bud. That's two more feature stories than we got before the tourney last year.
Also keep in mind that UWM is not her only assignment. Plus she has to deal with being a woman in profession dominated by men, covering men's teams to boot.

The front-page, above-the-fold feature/preview story on Boo the day of the Wyoming game makes the placement of the game story on page 6 the following day all the more mystifying. It certainly lends credence, however, to what I heard through the grapevine: That Bobbi labors to write on deadline. This would explain a lot. Assigning the story to page 6 would remove a lot of the pressure on the writer and the editors to have the story for placement on the front.

Having actually edited a newspaper, I suspect that you are wrong. Space is set aside well before any deadlines. Writers are told about how many words they have to fill it. A breaking story can change things but there wasn't any breaking stories that day.
In other words the decision to put us on page 6 was made before the story was even writtem Reporters who consistently miss deadlines without reason are not retained.
I won't pretend that I know why the story was put there, but I will say that where a story is placed makes little difference in terms of deadlines. All the space has to be filled no matter where it is.
It's just as big of a pain to fill space on page 6 as it is to fill it on page 1 when a story isn't in a time.

Sorry, but dylan is right. I would rarely ever place a story on page 1, especially a "fringe" story like UWM (sorry, but we are), if I knew my reporter would struggle getting the story to me on time.
Also, the game started at 8 p.m. Central time. JS's deadline for first edition is somewhere around 10-10:15 ... that's a helluva time crunch, especially if you want to put it on page 1.
Page 1 goes to film much earlier than other pages due to color. Dylan and I also have a lot of experience editing newspapers as well.
