After just checking now and not reading thru the thread really, did UWM stick to a half court-no press game like Memphis?
Anyone find it odd JT only took 9 shots? Our best player taking only 9 shots seems pretty weak to me.

4 of 5 starters returning from a team that could shoot, and now we can't?
hmmmmm.....maybe they arent allowed to shoot until all 5 guys touch it.
Good old Hickory High offense. HUP HUP HUP....run the 3 man weave!!!!

Well, let's put this in perspective... we dropped one at Valpo last year and Tech is definetely better than Valpo.
I hope to god that Joah isn't going to have to be our lifeboat this season. Last year he was incredibly inconsistent. Remember his 0 pt. performance against Detroit last year.

hopefully we take that late surge we had and carry it over into the next game, a stepping stone for the rest of the season for that matter.

Nighthawk --
I agree with you. I expected WAY more this season and these first few games than this. The transitions suck, Tucker is miffing, the line-ups are all screwed up, we are starting to play Bo Ryan ball. and I am sick of it.
I am tired of relegating this team to "win the conference tourney." What kind of thinking is that? Does no one remember when UWM & Butler both got invited, and Butler got in on the merits of their non-conference schedule? I for one thought this season's non-conference was far less interesting than the games we played last year. I am sorry, but I dont think playing an OVC team picked to win their conference as a stellar game, and it is definitely one we should have won. I know it is early, but this team NEEDS to shed this image and win these important non-conf games. No one gives two craps and a stroke about the Horizon, so make an impact and stepping up during these games will do wonders in the long run.
So far I have to say, I expected more of this team and hope that we get better as the week's go on.

Step into a crackerbox gym in the middle of nowhere against a decent team that can make its season beating you. Then you can't hit the ocean from the beach, and the referees decide everyone is really there to hear them blow the whistles.
This loss has ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with Jeter's style of ball. On the contrary, we took it from a 14 point deficit that occurred largely because we were jacking quick, foolish shots to a 1 point deficit by playing intelligently and within Jeter's style (pressure D and post-touching, foul-shot producing, opportunistic O).
Frankly, I was VERY encouraged by the rally, as it seems to me the players might finally be getting it. The loss is unfortunate but guess what, folks, there is only one possible way into the tourney this year anyway from the Horizon -- win the conference tourney.

Ummm...it occurs to me that only losers are encouraged by a loss...I am not encouraged, happy or the least bit proud.
This is essentially the same team that played 30 tight competitive minutes with Illinois last year in the Sweet 16. Now they get worked by Tenn Tech? And the only reason this game was even mildly close was because Tenn Tech couldn't hit a free throw to save their souls.
THAT is where the "rally" you refer to came from. 5 of 17 at one point.
Nice rally. I'm sure we can count on teams to shoot like thatr night in and night out.
Or is that due to superior "Freethrow Defense" in the Jeter style?

First, I'm really looking forward to the SLU game this weekend. I think the boys are ready to whack somebody.
Second, I wasn't on this board much last year but was there the same babyish b****ing going on aftyer the early season losses to Wisconsin and Valpo? Get a grip, for God's sake. These players are good. This coach is good. This is going to be a fun year. If you want to jump ship then do so, but don't expect any respect when you come back because the Panthers are winning again.

How can you say it had nothing to do with Jeter ball? Thats wrong PERIOD....This is a team that presses well and runs and guns and tires teams out. They are not doing that this year and therefore renders them less effective...This is a team that needs to get out and run and gun and play wild ball...We dont have the post players that are good enough to make that an effective system
Everyone needs to quit dancing around the subject...Jeter ball DOES NOT work here at UWM with the players we have right now...If its not broken dont fix it...Jeter makes me sick to my stomach...Just makes you realize how important Bruce was to this program

I am not jumping ship, but someone has to be objective enough to call out "ICEBERG" before this ship sinks quietly to the depths.

I'm not an expert on BB but it seems to me that you can't shoot 30.8% and expect to win on the road against a decent team no matter what offense you are running. But...when the shots are a product of the offense that is being run... Let them play Robbie If the offensive set isn't generating open shots then blame it, but from what I heard (and from what I saw in the games at home) it is. They're just not hitting them. Look at the beginning of the Upper Iowa game. How many shots did we miss from point blank range at the beginning? How many open 3's did we miss? We shouldn't expect them all to be made but we should certainly expect more than 40% of open shots to go down.

Alright here is a little link so everyone can at least try and understand the swing offense a little better. It is all about players making the right reads, and finding open shots. www.jes-basketball.com/animated/poffenseswingwisconsinswing.htmlIn no way does every player have to touch the ball, and its not nearly as slow and Dick Bennett-ish as people make it out to be. The team couldn't shoot tonight, Joah didn't have a good game, neither did Chris Hill. Don't act as if Pearl didn't have set plays and run an offense. We made a great run in the NCAA tournament because we shot the lights out. It's not like Pearl has some magic system that makes people shoot great. We just got hot at the right time. We played bad sometimes when Bruce was here too. Anyone remember detroit, valpo, uw, and uwgb last year. God those were some ugly games.
