I was wondering if anyone had any information on who the projected starters are for tomorrow along with last year's stats.
I was on Memphis' home page and saw that an article was posted on October 18th that Jeremy Hunt was dismissed from the team. If in fact he was not allowed back on the team yet, then this is helpful for the Panthers. Hunt was a key contributor last year and really starting turning it on in the end. He averaged 9.5 a game but was getting up in the high teens toward the end of the year. Anyone have any info on this guy's status?

Is it safe to assume then that if we stop Washington and Carney from absolutely going off the game is in our hands?

Absolutely not. Any of Memphis' players could go off. If we contain Carney and D-Wash to about 15 pts each, then we HAVE A CHANCE.

don't u know what happens when you assume? i think we have a better chance of stopping Carney IMO. Tigert can go head to head w/ him and McCoy better realize he needs to play like he's 260 lbs. i moreso think if we can contain washington than we should do fine since he is the leader of this young, Calipari-lead team. i'm not saying that'll be easy b/c it won't by any means but i hope we put up the same type of defensive effort like we did vs. BC. i hope to see Hill crawl out from under tables early and often. i also think Pancratz and Massiah will contribute well too.

As far as defensive matchups go...I highly doubt Tigert will be guarding their shooting guard, Carney, when there will be players at 6-9, 6-9, and 6-10 in the starting lineup along with Carney and Washington. Carney is easily their most athletic player who takes a slasher mentality so I'd be more comfortable with a Boo Davis or a Joah Tucker guarding him. Matchups will be quite difficult to guess on though considering that 4 out of their 5 starters are just as tall, if not taller than, Tigert. Boxing out, a must tomorrow.
And yes, assuming is like a rocking chair...it gives you something to do but usually gets you no where.

As much as I love UWM, how well they did last year, what we have returning, etc.....we are still at a personnel disavantage in games like this. Memphis is loaded with ATHLETES who can play. Can we compete, heck yea, but like the 2005 NCAA tournament, we will need to play our best to keep it close/win - if we don't, things could get ugly.

I hate having this as a first game under a new coaching staff. We really could have used a few bunnies first. But you play the cards that are dealt. I think our seniors have a lot of pride, a lot of talent and very little fear, but honestly this will be a very different environment than they are used to. Big enemy arena, high D1 opponent. Last game truly like that was at Wisconsin last year.

I highly doubt Tigert will be guarding their shooting guard, Carney, Carney's a wing so he'll be playing the frontcourt as well. from who memphis has starting this game he looks like he'll switch between the 3 and 4.

I was wondering if anyone had any information on who the projected starters are for tomorrow along with last year's stats. Anyone have any info on this guy's status? Just to let you know yes hunt is gone, but its not as big of a deal as his numbers make it look, he never played a full season in the three years since hes been here, hes been injured and missed most of each three seasons to answer another of your questions regarding our youth on the team, yes we mostly are freshmen and sophmores, but this is decieving to because 4 out of the 5 freshman went to prep school, which adds a year of maturity to them plus they were all at the same prep school so they are coming in with about 45 games of experience of playing together. next as far as stopping carney and washington, neither one of them will be a 20 + ppg guy this season this team is so loaded with scorers that 10 of the players on this team are capable of a 30 point night any night. and last don't think i hate UMW because i don't i watched every game they played in the ncaa tourney last year, but here is my prediction for tonight memphis will win by about 15 points, it will be a tight game until the second half when depth catches up with UMW, memphis is going to play a very uptempo style and run all night subbing constantly, i think that were the big difference is going to be, but if UMW can force a slowed down Half court game it could get very ugly for memphis. And last good luck tonight

Tiger fans are aware this is going to be one heckuva tough game for us. We have a fantastic returning PG in Darius Washington. He's quick as lightening and he's got an incredible work ethic. We also have the C-USA POY in SR Rodney Carney. He's an athlete that was an IN state champion in the high jump. He can hit from anywhere on the court. Our recruiting class has 5 freshman who were all Top 100. Four of those guys played together at Laurenburg (NC) Prep where they went 40-0 and won the prep national championship. Chemistry-wise, they play well together. Of those 4, the most heralded recruit is Memphis native Shawne Williams. He grew up wanting to be a Tiger (like many Memphis kids do). Coach Cal says he and D-Wash are the 2 who give it everything they've got everyday in practice. The past few years, the Tigers have been hurt by the NBA in that players either left early (Dejuan Wagner) or never showed up (Amare Stoudemire, Kendrick Perkins). This year everybody's here. Not only that, we have 5 solid walk-ons. For those interested, here's a link to our roster... 2005-06 RosterAgain, in PDF... 2005-06 Roster in PDFGood luck tonight as well as the rest of the season!
