'Collins plans to attend the game Thursday at Allstate Arena and urged Illini fans not to get carried away by their emotions. "I can understand why a lot of people would take it personally,'' he said. "But these kids had nothing to do with it. They don't know anything about it. I hope each team's fans back their teams with a lot of noise but with a lot of class. I'm certainly hoping that nothing happens that can be deemed uncivilized.''' the whole article is here www.suntimes.com/output/campus/cst-spt-ill21.html a surprisingly classy move. i hope some illini fans take his advice and boo bruce but realize our boys had nothing to do with it.

I don't know if this move by JC is just lip service or not, but classy nonetheless.

Unbelievable. Thomas admits being offered money and a car, yet Pearl is the bad guy. I never read the transcripts, but they are quoted in this article. Thomas undeniably admits being offered money and a car. But Pearl's the bad guy? Not Collins? Not Illinois? Makes me sick.
Illini and UIC fans can now seriously KISS MY ASS!!
GO PANTHERS!!!

amazing how people still care about this. its also amazing how Pearl is the "evil" person for doing what he did, even though Illinois is the school that broke the rules. kind of like Pete Rose. the guy broke the rules and gambled on his sport and team, yet everyone sympathizes with him and baseball is the bad guy. weird.

i think its also amazing that students in the orange crush section (by the way. wost...soda...ever) are going to yell about this. im a oldie as far as our student section goes and i was like 9 when this happend and had no bearing on anything. all their students are gonna grab on to this like it happend to them and this is their fight....psh.
heres a couple things i take out of this
1. bruce is illinois' scapegoat because they can't accept that they got punished for doing something wrong. they believe the ncaa and iowa were conspiring against them.
2. bruce took an amazing amount of personal risk by doing this. he paid a price of his own for trying to do the right thing.
3. no way could bruce have done this all on his own. he wouldnt have done this without ok from his boss and probably their bosses.
reall this is all silly. the illini can yell whatever they want. they'll probably try to start fights with us a fans. i'll be there proudly displaying my BRUCE IS MY HOMEBOY shirt. i'll represent our university well. i hope the illini yell and be obscene. just will make them look like sh*t.

Don't forget that the Illini mascot is going back to court very soon for charges of racism. The last thing Illinois needs is to have that issue hit major publicity during the NCAA tourny. Imagine "racist mascot" chants. That would really hurt their case if it is a central issue of their NCAA Tourny experience. Right now the court case is passing under national exposure.
Unfortunately the Illini fans are ruining the NCAA Tourney by bringing up the past...most of the people who are talking about Pearl were babies when it happened.
No matter what, we need an EXTREMELY LOUD Bruce Pearl chant every time their fans bring up the issue.

I dont think we need to bring up the court case, but by all means, my only point is that U of I certainly has MANY negative issues involving their university. They should be the last to bring up any righteous statements.

Fighting Illini = Indian logo. The charges are not really against the logo but rather the mascot who dances at the games. It seems the university is always in court battling the issue.

i just finished reading the 10+ page sh*t talking about bruce on the illini board mb15.scout.com/fillinoisinsiderfrm1its amazing now this hatred for bruce can make 50 year old men act like little kiddies who just got their sucker taken away. i dont know how such hatred can exist, i personally cant imagine hating anyone so much..especially over a basketball team.

I spent a little time on their board as well...where is the basketball talk???
I was blown away by their BP threads...they border on criminal. Just goes to show how much else there is to do in cenrtal Illinois.
