With an 84-37 record and two NCAA tourney invites in four years at UW-Milwaukee, head coach Bruce Pearl is a hot coaching commodity -- just like his predecessor Bo Ryan. In fact, if the Panthers win a game in the Big Dance, Pearl could be a goner.

I think Katz said he was a possibility but he also said that Pitino and Calliapari each have a guy that they are pushing for the spot too so hopefully those guys take the job instead.

At halftime of the Western Michigan-Marquette game, Katz talked about a slew of possible candidates at Virginia, Tennessee and UMass.
Not one mention of Pearl.

On Lappas' firing: sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=2012695"Home attendance rose slightly to an average of 3,869 from last season's average of 3,192. But the only time this season the team came close to filling the 9,493-seat Mullins Center was when the Minutemen stunned defending NCAA champion Connecticut 61-59." Good lord. No way he leaves for UMass, they are a glorified mid-major.

Good post, Hack. In addition, notice that Lappas made only $185,000 this past season. If memory serves, BP earned $300,000 in base salary alone. With escalators and endorsements, I believe he could reach $500,000. Football and others would know the exact figures.

I believe your numbers are a bit inflated, but I do know that his base salary IS higher than 185.
With only a 3,800 average, I doubt they have a lot of extra funds to attract a higher priced coach. Not to mention, not football team to help line the coffers.

Dylanrocks may be off by a little at the top end. In other words, I don't know if he is making $200,000 on endorsements, bonuses, kickers, radio show, TV show, camps, ads., etc. but I don't think he is far off base. www.jsonline.com/sports/coll/oct04/267949.asp

Thanks pnthr30! I did talk to Bruce the day after this article came out, and he did tell me that it wasn't 100% accurate. I didn't ask for more detail, but I assumed that it meant that the later year numbers were off. But the point is still the same: Why would he go to a program with LESS chance of winning, with LESS fans, for LESS money?? It is not going to happen. Next rumor, please!
