Guys, the injury to Simien makes this game infinitely more winnable. A cursory glance of their boxscores suggests just how important the first-team preseason all-American really is. For example, Simien scored 25 points in 38 minutes in a 68-61 victory over Vermont in the Jayhawks' season opener. Yes, KU has tremendous size, with four players who stand 6-10 or taller. But of those four, only two -- freshmen Sasha Kaun and C.J. Giles -- play any minutes of note and can't even be considered members of the regular rotation. In short, this is a team with a seven-man rotation that just lost its most vital member. Obviously, it's still an uphill challenge.

I hope you guys saw those freshman big men making passes to the officials in their game against SC.
My final thoughts on the game are that I don't care if we get beat by 15-20. The important thing for this team is that we don't quit. If we keep trying and lose by 20 (although without simeon I can't imagine both happening) then that is enough for me.
Show some desire guys!

The important thing for this team is that we don't quit. ..............Show some desire guys! Exactly! They need to show some heart and some pride! However, with that being said, I am sure that BP "reminded" them in some way, shape, or form, that the didn't leave it all on the floor at UW, and I doubt we will see another "letdown" like that for quite some time.

Well as a Butler student i'm glad to see that the Horizon League is playing some tough teams, and hopefully will keep the games close and gain a little respect. In terms of this game realistically UWM has little chance of winning. Speaking from experience 2 years ago when I was a freshmen at BU, (our Sweet 16 year) we played Duke on the road. Before the game everyone thought we had a shot, then reality set in and we got blown out of the water. Playing these schools is extremely difficult because if you have any little lapse or mishap, before you know it you're down by 20. That said I wish you guys the best of luck and hope you keep it close. Also in terms of Ed I haven't seen any UWM games this year and I saw a few last year. Ed is a very good player i'll give him that. However, good mid-major players are not even on the same level as some of the stars on Elite teams such as Kansas, Duke, etc. This being said even if Ed plays his best it still his performance will probably be on par with who's ever guarding him. I mean I hate to say this about Mid-major players but they're playing at that level for a reason. Good luck and look forward to meeting you guys early in January. Go Dawgs.

Is it just me, or that a ridiculous amount of money to be spent when bruce would of played them for free in a pick up game in gwam. I mean come on thats, someones yearly salary. Or 3 high school teachers salaries. Anyways, just my rant on that.
I love how we always get into a discussion about being optismistic and realistic.
I generally like to take ths side of being optismistic. However, i do try and be realistic when thinking about the preparation needed for the game.
Heres some insight.
Any coach will tell you that each game is uniq and special in its own way. To some people that is the coach being responsible with his players. As opposed their coach telling them they can beat anyone any day. Its a sort of media dodger but oh so important to the team.
So why do people take the time to be realistic infront of optismistic people. To them its just a mere fact of opinon that 9 out 10 KU would beat us if we played that much. But there is always that one game were the Panthers can win.
Put yourself in the locker room, before tip off, nobody would be like, "were prolly going to loose by about 10 tonight". No one would do that.
Bc you know if anyone of us were in that locker room with the boys we would not be realistic. We would give them hope and inspire them to acheave greatness beyond their own capacity. That in turn is the most powerfull aspect of being optimistic. Inspiring others and your self to perform above your own standards. I still think one can be realistic but they have to apply that knowledge. Such as figuring out how your team will defend a team possibley winning by 20 points.
The problem with being a realist is that you give up on your preparation. If you were a coach and you believed that KU would win by 10 or so you would find ways to increase your score while working with your defence to decrease the margin of victory you are expecting.
remeber that college basketball is the one true sport were upsets occur on a regular basis. A great team will win , 9 times out of 10 against a lesser team. However, there is that 1 magical game where the lesser team plays bigger than they are perceaved. For example, GT lost to Gonzaga, GT almost lost to UIC, then UIC got rocked by a D2 school. Do you see the swings that occur here.
In the end, if believe you are going to loose, find a way to win. Thats why people practice, thats why our team is in KU right now. Thats why were not going to give up.

I have to believe this is true. The experience that we gain from playing against teams of this caliber is going to pay huge dividends come league play and the HL Tournament.

There is next to no talk about the game on any of the four KU boards that I was able to find.... I know we are not a well known program (on a national level), but I would think there would be some conversation about the game.

We covered. And to those of you who felt we didn't have a shot (Freak etc.)...Eat Crow. Ed McCants is BACK!!! If only Joah wouldn't have single-handedly lost the game for us I'd be out tipping cars naked.
I always say a win is a win and a loss is a loss but this seems to me to be a "moral victory." Even if they were Simien-less, KU and the nation will be looking at this game when March rolls around.
Great effort by the boys. Did you guys see those dives for loose balls?
THIS is why we play the game, this is why we play the Majors, this is why college sports are so great and why they are structured the way they are. If you want parity, go watch the NFL. If you want miracle wins with David & Goliath you're on the right board.
Game on.
(Anybodyelse out there screaming at the top of their lungs for a technical on Moody after that dunk?)

Heres some espn.com ink about the game. Its centered around Ku but they got some good quotes from Ed. sports.espn.go.com/ncb/recap?gameId=243572305"They were just triple-teaming me," McCants said. "As soon as I got the ball, those guys were headed in and swarming me."
