That was absolutely pathetic coming from the student section. I don't think anyone got hurt and that is due solely to luck. Some jackass even thought throwing his beverage would be a good idea, all it did was hit our band. Our horn players were hit with several items among them BEAD NECKLACES that were chucked. UWM played a mediocre game all the way around and it cost them big time, but that doesn't excuse stupid behavior and poor sportsmanship. I watched four different guys get arrested for unruly behavior and students CHEERED them on. Just sickening.

I agree 100% nohops...but you'll get idiots like that at any school, especially with bandwagon fans who have no idea how to act at a college game. At UIC this year we had bottles, garbage, etc tossed at us when they WON! I dont blame their whole school either, just a few idiots. I expected it to happen from either school, all depending on who won and lost.
But yeah, it did make us look bad.

I also agree....with UWMFreak. You'll get that with any school, no matter what. I thought it was totally stupid that bandwagon fans decide to be stupid and throw stuff on the court. There will probably be restrictions because of this now. The hardcore people that are at every game understand how to act. I just wish there was a way to weed out the unruly.

There were a group of kids near me in the student section that started smoking right in the stands during the 2nd half. Not that it was a huge deal, but just another example of bandwagon fans that don't understand acceptable behavior for a basketball game.

Was at the Sugar Bowl last year which is all the beads you can handle. Hello, I'm another UWM student in the band providing entertainment trying to enjoy the games. You're a moron plain and simple.

Dude, you're in the School Band. You're asking to get hit with garbage and made fun of. You're lucky it was only beads. At UIC, we throw bowling balls at our band.
UIC, what!

Please don't act like a moron and pretend to represent UIC. I argue as much as anyone, but about facts and opinions, not hate and stupidity.

I've been working UWM games for 18 years now, dreaming of the day when we'd have the kinds of success we've had the last couple of years. We finally get a chance to show the country who we are here at UWM, and too many of our own act like four year olds. Geez, grow up it was only a game. I hate to admit it, but I'd even say the UIC fans outclassed those that hooted and hollered all through the national anthem (can we have even a little respect here?), chanting obscenities at the UIC players, booing their cheerleaders and band...and the list goes on.
Those that participated in the above are just as pathetic as those UIC fans you claim are so obnoxious. Have a little class here folks. It's one thing to get rowdy and have some fun, but it's a different story when you throw crap on the floor and risk injury not only to your own team, but other fans as well.
Freak, you say you'll get idiots like that behave like this at any school.....yeah, maybe but does that mean we should shrug our shoulders and say "oh well?" No, someone needs to stand up to those misguided students and say this behavior is not going to be tolerated, and here's why....
I have never been more ashamed...Let's hope we've learned a little and grow up for the NIT....
Give UIC some credit...they played a decent game and we missed our ft's and bunnies in the lane. Don't get pissed off at UIC for our own failures....

I agree, some sort of a policy needs to be enforced within the student section. The g/a seating is definitely not working for crowd control. Those who attend UWM games frequently this season acted with class, and it is easy to control those students as they have learned early how to act at a basketball game. The problem was the random people who attended the game. They were in a huge mass of people (other bandwagon fans), and from where we were, there was no way to tell who was acting foolish.
It was completely embarassing and believe me when I say the loyal fans were absolutely sick to have our school look that bad on TV, but I really do not know how to control that. Perhaps step one is to make a policy of a $20 season ticket, where students are assigned to seats once again. After that, one major idiotic action like throwing water bottles on to the court, would result in giving up your seat. Then again, who knows who is in their correct seating assignment. This is definitely a problem that will have to be closely investigated for a successful solution.
I would love to see some sort of actions taken at games against the fans who were tossing the bottles, but in no way is the SBGC in position to make a call like that, nor can we control those actions. We lead the same ol' cheers, but beyond that we cannot stop the "f--- marquette" chants or throwing water bottles. The guys who begin the anti-Marquette cheers each game are pretty big guys, and usually wasted, by no means will I talk to them (I dont get paid!).
I would suggest bringing this up to Bud, Pearl or Jason Clark. It is a big problem, it's their show and I am sure they want UWM to present itself a lot better to the public. It is entirely up to them if there will be any new policies set in place. I'll support anything that is put in action.

Yes, I'm ashamed about students acting like idiots as well. I don't condone anything those people did, but the truth is that there's two sides to this story. You have never seen any UWM supporters go on UIC's message board this year and act like complete morons. Did they go and defend their school? Yes, but never just said pointless, baseless comments ripping on their school. People on UIC's board have said that both sides are at fault here and I believe that to be true. Hopefully, in the future though we can clean up such pointless things from our student section such as swearing at cheerleaders and throwing things on the court. Meanwhile though, I'm not really worried about UIC anymore. Let's talk about what's in store for us and not some team we play 2 or 3 times a year.
