This is for UWM Freak. Most likely it’s the other way around. Illinois doesn’t want to play SIU. A lot of other good teams from a major conference don’t want to play SIU. It’s a no win situation for the team from a major conference. Who said SIU doesn’t want to play Illinois?
It’s not a guarantee that you will get in with some wins over good teams from a major conference, but you have a better chance. A lot of expects thought that Butler got screwed in 2002. 9 times out of 10, when a mid major gets an at-large, they have a key win over a major conference team in their non-conference. Richmond may not exactly be a mid major, but playing at Kansas was big. If UWM is not playing UW, then you need to find another good team that will play us. The better you are, the harder that is to find.
Why play a team like UW or Kansas? In the long run, it makes them better. It brings in recruits. It gives the team more exposure. I thought the ultimate goal was to play a team like UW in the tourney. Playing teams like UW and Kansans is not going to make it harder to beat a solid mid major.

The UW game does not define to the season to us on the discussion board. We are die-hard fans, and we'll be at every game even if we were 0-8.
But it does matter to the state, possible fans...those who we want to start coming to games. A blow out on ESPN+ ruins the chance of picking them up. In one game we might make a lot of money, but as a result our guys wont have option of playing in front of ANY fans. Now that will kill the chance to recruit more than anything.
I'm not going to sway any one, so I am done discussing the topic. I'll close the thread later tonight.
Later, UWMfreak

Why close the thread? This is a discussion board ... and I do see a discussion going on, don't I??

haha, I know, we'll leave it open then. But once I stop talking, there is no discussion! ;D
Just take the time to look at other options to reach the top. If one method isnt working, why not try another?
Teams have found other ways to succeed...
Peace Out, UWMfreak

Man, I just want tell everybody on the board to take a step back and take a deep breath................OK now, this team is still 6 - 2!!, we are not 0 - 8!! This remindes me exactly like when the Packers were 1 - 4. 95% of the people calling into the sport talk shows said the Packers would be lucky to win 4 games. Now these are the same people that are saying the Packers can make it to the NFC champioship game and if they play the Eagles, they won't be embarresed like the last time they played. If the Panthers played the Badgers this Saturday would the result be the same, Hell no!! Would we win, probably not, but we wouldn't lose by 29 and only score 37 points.
Do you think that when the Badgers lost to Northwestern last year by 20, the badger fans all gave up hope, no !! I guess we can all get a good laugh about this thread when we start beating up the HL. BP should use this loss as a motivational tool and leasson about coming to play everygame. The season is not lossed!! It's time to get some respect back next Weds.!!

Just take the time to look at other options to reach the top. If one method isnt working, why not try another? Who said it isn't working? Back-to-back postseason appearances contradict your statement. You are still failing to realize that this was one game!

I played summer ball with a guy like Ed. The only way to handle his situation is to bench him, and not let him off for a while. Arrogance leads to defeat. And please, stop with the whole "cancel our series talk" it is ridiculous. Isn't this what we all wanted??

Moreso, why do you think that the recruiting classes and the fan base for the next decade will be affected by this loss? You really don't think one game will do that, do you?
OK, say for instance you are right ... that last night's lost was the first sign of UWM's "armegeddon." What would happen then if somehow by the grace of God that UWM pulls a major upset on Kansas next week?
Will the US Cellular Arena be filled for the rest of the season? Will UWM start attracting top 20 recruits?
Based on your logic, "yes" would be the answer to this question.
One non-conference game. That's all it was. Yes it will probably hurt come Selection Sunday should UWM be in that position ... but that's three months away.

I could only listen to the game because the Sandburg cable network didnt get the game. Hey heres an idea to help build our program, maybe the frickin dorms could get wmlw so the young students could watch the televised game. Just a thought Also wouldnt you think the bar in our own union could run a special on beer last night to promote watching the game their. I mean lets face it that place would have been empty last night if not for that game. A special on beer is the least they could have done. Thanks to those who planned that last night and to the alumni association, it was a great time to watch the game with so many fans.

apparently the gasthaus is unable to do beer promotions for those events. we talked to the manager a while back about that and the university is very against the idea. seems like they're lucky to even have a liquor license.

THEY STILL DIDNT FIX THAT? We were complaining about the dorms not showing games when I was a soph!
The event at the gasthaus was excellent last night. My only complaint was the fact they HAD to leave Wheel of Fortune on one screen. Something to watch during time outs I guess...

i really have been debating on whether or not i was even going to comment on the UW game, especailly after reading what every one is saying. And to be real honest the only thing that is pissing me off more than the game from last night is the people today. What in the blue-f***ing hell is wrong with every body?
Now Kingsbury, thank you for making a very vaild point, WE ARE 6-2!!!!!!!!!!! we are not 0-8 and just struggling to get be in our confernce. We might not be playing the greatest right at this moment but we have seen how well we can play. And good point with the comparison to the Packers as well. You want an example of a team just playing god f***ing awful look at the packers in the first part of the season, i seriously think that at one point this year that one of the unbeaten college teams could have given that pack a run for thier money. But you know what we do now we (as fans) go to the games at home and take out any frustration on the other team and make them get off their game.
Now i'm sure that people aren't going to liek this but i think that coming into this year too many people had VERY inflated ideas of what we were going to be able to achieve as a team. Now yes it would have been great to go into the game against Kansas at 8-0, and it would have been great to end UW streak, but i think that after many of us read soem of the pre-season articles and things of that nature we (myself inculded) got way to big heads about ourselves. Now there is nothing wrogn with being confident but there is a line that you can cross with it and become unrealistic.
Now let me pose a question, if we had played the same way that we did against Air Force against Valpo do we come out with a win? i believe that we do. and if we play that same way against UW is there a chance that we are in that game up until the end when UW woulf find a way to pull it out just pretty much due to the fact that they are that good at home, i believe that as well.
I am going to say somethign that many others have said as well, lets all take a collective deep breath.....................done good. now lets focus on the up coming things and put what has happened in the past in the past, can't go back and change it now. So yes it is on to Kansas and lets go out there and just play basketball. No need to think that you can go out and run with another team or that you can slow it down with another team, just go out and play beasketball. We are by no means done with our season, we still have a long way to go and a lot more games to go. why don't we bring this whole mind set up when we are actually done with the seson, there is too much time to go and too many things that can still happen. JUST RELAX A BIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well its offical, most views ever for one thread, and yea defiinitly dont close this thread, this is the first time ive acctually seen some discussion and disputes between fans, and i think its a good thing, at least its something to talk about besides seeing the same threads over and over.
yea i think a lot of people are right saying that people, myself included had way to high of expectations, maybe even bruce himself did, i mean, for once since ive been here, we finally got some major confernce teams to play us, and once i saw the scheduale, i thought this is the year were going to really make a statement and upset somebody, after last nights game, i no its only one game, but that was jut awful, i no longer think we can even play with uw or kansas, probably not even purdue, i think bruce thought this team was going to be better then it was, and the schedualling has back fired. but whatever, i like seeing so many people sharing there opinions, keep it going.

I agree 100% with dutchpnthr. 6-2 at this point is very good. We have some high quality wins and 1 loss that looks somewhat bad (Valpo). The odds of an at-large berth were slim at the beginning of the season unless we pulled off some major upsets anyways.
This team is struggling, but all it takes is 1 game to get that turned around. If that doesn't happen against Kansas-- a win against a struggling Manhattan team on the road would really help. If these were conference games that we were loosing I would be worried, but right now I am still very optimistic that we will be very successful.

After reading the board for a while and then watching the game last night, I felt compelled to register. Remind me if I am wrong but didn't we lose to Air Force by 25-30 last year and we were still a game away from the NCAA tourney. I'll take a loss to Madison any day of the year if we are still dancing in March. As my dad said, "We aren't gonna get an at large, so this means nothing in 3 months." I'm proud to be a Panther Fan and I'm glad I can be a part of a great fan board!
