So does anyone know if Howard "the duck" Moore is their new recruiting coordinator since he's replacing Jeter or did one of the other assistants take that role? either way this would be a HUGE recruit for UW if they land him. i don't see Smith going to TN.

Pretty sure Tennessee is out of the running. It will come down to Louisville or UW.

Little Smith is making an official visit to Tennessee soon. I wonder if Wisconsin's signing of that Bohannon kid is what made him backtrack? There is more to this than meets the eye. The kid was all ready to sign for UW and now this?

i hope smith realize that him and this other kid can play either guard position so its not like they couldn't talk about it between each other and decide who could play what. they could also switch up positions too. i hope Smith looks at the already shady rep Pearl has developed there should put up some red flags. i'd like to see him at either Wisconsin or Louisville.

the MJS article on Bohannon made it sound like Smith still wanted to go to Wisconsin, but the Badgers only have one scholarship left and it could go to Trevon Hughes if he commits first. Quotes from Mr. Smith read like it would be worth Madison's while to wait for Jerry to make an announcement before giving up that last one. Tough choice between those two players.

according to HoopScoop Online, if Pitino can get his hands on another scholarship for next season he might have the upper hand to get Smith.

The only sucky reason Jeter left WI:
Posted: June 3, 2005 Madison - Since Rob Jeter left Wisconsin to become the head coach of UW-Milwaukee, one of the Badgers' biggest jobs has been building a relationship and trust with Jerry Smith and his family.
Advertisement Smith, a 6-foot-2 guard from Wauwatosa East, is one of the country's top prospects for the freshmen class of 2006, and he would already have given Wisconsin an oral commitment if Jeter were still on staff, his father said.
"It would have been a done deal, hands down," Jerry Smith Sr. said.
Instead Smith continues to decide between UW, Connecticut, Wake Forest, Louisville and Tennessee, his father said.
"They're still high on the list," Smith Sr. said of the Badgers.
The Smiths have spoken with UW coach Bo Ryan but for the past four years Jeter, who was Ryan's top assistant, was Smith's primary recruiter. Smith Sr., who is the boys' director of the Wisconsin Playground Warriors club program, called Ryan a class act and said Ryan and Jeter have a special place in his heart. But in regard to Ryan, Smith Sr. also said that, "We've got to develop a bond with him."
There are other factors Smith is considering.
Smith Sr. said his son would excel in an open court, transition style of play. He also noted that Jerry's mother doesn't fly.
The Smiths know the clock is ticking with the Badgers.
Wisconsin has one scholarship left for the freshmen class of 2006 and it could be snapped up by Delafield St. John's Trevon Hughes, another highly touted guard. Hughes, who has narrowed his choices to Iowa and Wisconsin, is in Iowa this weekend participating in the Hawkeyes' elite camp.
Meanwhile, Smith's tour of some of the country's top basketball programs appears to be over.
The two-time first-team all-state pick was supposed to be in Tennessee Friday making an official visit to the Volunteers program and new coach Bruce Pearl, who is formerly of UWM and is a friend of the Smith family. They canceled Wednesday so Smith could focus on a group project for school and prepare for final exams, which are next week.
Since official visits must be made during the school year - Tosa East completes exams on Thursday - Smith will probably make his final decision without an official visit there. He made an unofficial visit there in April and Smith Sr. said they would make another unofficial visit there if his son asked.
The elder Smith didn't offer a time frame for a decision, but it seems unlikely that one would be announced until exams are over.
"The kid feels pressure," Smith Sr. said. "He's 17 and we raised him that once you make a decision you stick with it."

This article really goes to show how great of a recruiter Jeter is. I know it is extremely unlikely, but I don't think that it would hurt Jeter to try to bring him to UWM. I know the other schools are national powers, but Jeter and smith have a relationship and he isn't going to decide for a while. Plus, his mom doesnt fly, UWM is extremely close to Tosa East. I know it won't happen, but It would be something.

Yeah we'll keep that in the "wishful thinking" category. i see him going to Wake Forest. not b/c favors them more than UW but b/c Hughes will take the scholarship first. which is unfortunate b/c i'd love to see Smith stay in state and he'd be a king on campus. i've heard Louisville is actually out of scholarships so Pitino would have to get rid of someone to give him a scholarship. UConn and TN don't have a chance considering Smith now went back on his visit w/ Pearl and UConn is never really talked about.

THURSDAY, June 16, 2005, 2:42 p.m. Tosa East's Smith picks Louisville
Wauwatosa East star guard Jerry Smith will attend the University of Louisville after he completes his senior year of high school. The 6-foot-2 Smith gave an oral commitment to Louisville coach Rick Pitino this afternoon.
The University of Wisconsin, Wake Forest, Connecticut and Tennessee were in the running, but Smith said the Louisville style of play under Pitino was a better fit for his game.
"I like Coach Pitino a lot," Smith said. "Coach has the best of both worlds, having coached on the NBA and the college level. He gives his players a lot of freedom to go up and down the court."
Smith averaged 19.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game last season for Tosa East. He was chosen to the first-team Associated Press all-state basketball team.

Louisville?
Lame. I hope the opinion of one prominent board member is correct. Meaning: I hope he's not as good as advertised.
