Apparently Pitino flew to Milw. to personally meet w/ Smith and his dad and that helped tremendously. What's interesting too is that apparently Hughes is the Badgers preferred choice anyways but i'm thinking Hughes was #1 based on probability on committing. B4 Hughes flew home Bo Ryan went as far as having him talk to Devin Harris to help persuade him. Only time will tell w/ both these guys.

I guess relationships with coaches are more important than I thought. I know Bo privately is probably a little ticked that Jeter is gone because it (the committment) was a done deal before he left.

I just ran into Coach Jones who was in town to pick up his family and he told me that what was so surprising about Jerry Smith and Louisville is that Pitino had never seen Smith play. Is that normal?

He may not have seen him play in person, but I am sure someone on his staff did, and I am sure he has seen tape and talked to people about him..........but nonetheless, it is still pretty strange. Kind of reminds me of a situation across town........Tom Crean only saw tape of Niv, and we all know how well that turned out! And for those old school UWM fans, I am pretty sure Dimetrie Dinchev and Oliver Deschmet were both signed sight unseen......

This is exactly why Jeter is a perfect fit for our program! ;D

Call me crazy, but could this be a reason why it has taken Hughes so long to commit? Is he waiting for Jeter??? Plus with Hill and Boo gone, he is immediately the starting 1 on our squad. It may just be a dream, but hey we did play Illinois in the Sweet 16 so anything can happen! ;D

In a surprise move by the Milwaukee Urinal/Sentinel, UWM was not mentioned at all as a possible choice for the touted Hughes.... I know you're referring to UWM's lack of publicity but is anyone really surprised in regards to UWM never being listed as a candidate b4 that article on wishoops.net? its pretty hard to believe we even had a chance since we seemingly got in the game after he established his top 2. Illinois and Gonzaga were also candidates but weren't mentioned in this article either.

If Hughes "nice girl" is going to Stritch in Milwaukee why wouldn't he want to stick around Milwaukee. It's a long shot and if you read the MJS atricle it's a done deal with UW but why would his "nice girl" let him go and be a stud 65 miles away. The way I see it for Hughes that's 15 miles outside of the 50 mile rule anything goes!!
