Just because one or both teams are bad doesn't mean that it's not a rivalry. Did USC/UCLA football stop being a rivalry when the Trojans were winning national titles and the Bruins were a doormat? What about the Packers and Bears? I live in Kenosha and work in Illinois. Think that game doesn't mean something even when we're 11-3 and they're 3-11?! As a Bears fan I can affirm that a 2-15 year would be a good year if the 2 wins were against the Packers. T-Bone, are there ever any circumstances under which you cheer for the Packers?!

I think it is Packer great Jerry Kramer who tells the story of when he first got to Green Bay and strangers would tell him "whatever you do beat those blankety-blank Bears."

As a Bears fan I can affirm that a 2-15 year would be a good year if the 2 wins were against the Packers. T-Bone, are there ever any circumstances under which you cheer for the Packers?! I quietly did when they were in the Super Bowl with Reggie White because I massively respected him as a football player and human. I also thought Favre was an incredible QB that deserved a Super Bowl win at that time. I've never told any of my Bears fans friends or family that though. Outside of that, I can't think of a time that I was pulling for the Pack. I'll never forget Charles Martin body slamming Jim McMahon seconds after he'd thrown the ball in 86 and likely costing us another shot at the Super Bowl. When people say the rivalry is no longer a rivalry, I always bring up that play and how it cemented my hatred for your beloved green and gold. And my favorite Super Bowl was when a massively favored Packers team got beat by the Broncos. Yes, I enjoyed that one far more than my own Bears Super Bowl victory, and I had no connections to Denver at that point either.

Martin and Green Bay contend that it was merely an involuntary spasm.

Martin and Green Bay contend that it was merely an involuntary spasm. It was after an interception, poot technique on a block. Holding at worse.

? Thats some insane logic...the game was on saturday night Pete. I wonder what days we played last season?? Oh a Monday and a Thursday. Well what about the year before… sh*t we played on a Wednesday and a Sunday matinee. The rivalry has been dead due to both programs being dead and too many of you are still living in past. Hopefully it begins to be built back up. Man you coming for Frans crown of worst takes on here.

Martin and Green Bay contend that it was merely an involuntary spasm. There's actually some pretty interesting history of the play... Due to a late hit on Chicago Bears quarterback Jim McMahon in 1986, Martin became the first modern NFL player to have a multi-game suspension for an on-field incident. The incident also made Martin the first NFL player ejected for a violent act not part of the game, setting an NFL precedent. After Martin's action, Bears offensive lineman Jim Covert retaliated against Martin with a late hit of his own, and two offsetting flags were thrown. Markbreit explained what happened next, After the play, I took a hold of Martin's arm and said, ‘Ninety-four, you're out of game. I'm ejecting you.' And he pulled away and said, ‘I'm not going anywhere with you.' I looked at him and, tongue-in-cheek, I said, ‘If you don't come with me, I'm going to let the Bears kill you.' He said, ‘Let's go.' Markbreit said, in a 2012 interview, "it was the most violent act of its day." Some day, when humans have inhabited the far reaches of the furthest planets in space, the Chicago Bears will once again be kind of good, the Packers will be average at best, and Packers fans will again come to hate their nearby neighbor to the south.

Whenever I remember Lundy's quote that "height is overrated in college hoops" I think of Moses Bol and Ahmad Rand last year. Whatever the case of our height and length, our defense needs to be defenestrated and rebuilt from the ground up. We could not stop a blindfolded "Make that layup" contestant from the days of yore when Panther home games were much more of an event. Our being picked #2 this season is looking about as wise as us being picked 9th last season. PS: We've won the battle of the boards in exactly 2 games this season- and they are exactly the 2 games you would guess. There's a reason Lundy and his staff don't appreciate athletic inside height as it comes to D1 ball - they lucked into into it with Bol and Rand, and will never look for it again, even though it's always there for the finding. Pearl, this guy is not.

I'll reiterate it, but Bart continued to recruit like it's D2, where you can sacrifice size for athleticism and get away more with defensive lapses. Welcome to the REAL D1 basketball world, Bart. Size isn't remotely the issue whatsoever. The issue is Bart hasn't recruited 1 single player you could describe as skilled this side of BJ Freeman (and Bart had to hire his prep school coach as an assistant to secure that commitment). Everyone else possesses an exceedingly poor skill level. Size is not the problem. You have to recruit guys who can dribble, pass, and shoot, and he recruited zero players in that regard. Then to compound it, he recruited guys who are legitimately dumb in terms of BBIQ AND selfish. So you have entire lineups out there of guys with no skill level to execute anything, who have no interest in nor ability to play as a team, just basically playing pick up. And Bart looks completely over his head in basically every regard. It's a terrible look for him and disastrous for the program. These two posts should be saved for the season, in their own post at the top of the board.
