I can't say anyone will be shocked by this news.

Well, other than Bryce Barnes, everyone on the roster in year 2 is whom coach Baldwin has brought in. Time for real growth in 2019-20 with new players in Te'Jon Lucas, Harrison Henderson, Shae Mitchell, CJ Wilbourn & Courtney Brown, Jr. set to play in 2019-20.

Hopefully a redshirt year will bring out the best in him. To say this season has been erratic is quite an understatement.

Hopefully a redshirt year will bring out the best in him. To say this season has been erratic is quite an understatement. This season is lost. My only regret is that Amir Allen didn't redshirt too. This is a year where I'm happy for the transfer redshirt too, because Henderson and Lucas can develop and get comfortable with the team without burning eligibility. 12 years ago (f*** we've all been here forever) I begged people to be positive through the 9-22 season. I'm done being negative all the time. All I do by being that way is continue the cycle of negativity. Pat Baldwin deserves our patience. Don't get me wrong - I wanna see major progress next year - but this is only his second season as a head coach, of a program that went through two straight seasons of transition and a ton of turmoil. The guys gotta learn how to win, Baldwin's gotta keep learning the X's and O's, but as long as they're progressing I'm fine with this season being trash. Mid-major basketball is cyclical, so bad years are part of the game. The teams that don't ever have bad years are the Butlers and Gonzagas of the world. Expecting that we should just automatically be a part of that group because we went to a Sweet 16 is a joke. Baldwin gets the benefit of the doubt from me. I'm hoping he develops his team and his coaching skills. But, you know, fire Amanda. She doesn't get a pass. Over five years and we're somehow in a worse position than when she started.

Nice to hear from you, Jimmy!
I'll add for now that it's tough to make "major progress" in a program with so much turmoil.
Still, I've always appreciated your upbeat approach and your contributions are missed.

When Braun hired PBS all we knew was that he was a guy with no head coaching experience who had never even won a title anywhere as an assistant. He was Lavelle Jordan lite. And Jordan was Rob Jeter lite. Is it possible that in three, four, five years he might get the program back to where Jeter already had it by 2010? Yeah, it's possible. But there is absolutely no positive evidence in his coaching so far to make that a strong argument. So far all we have seen is consistently inconsistent and more often very bad play -- and constant roster turnover. And let's face it, however capable he is or isn't, he's also swimming against the tide of an absolutely abysmal athletic director and laughably bad support from the University. On top of all that, he has demonstrated no particular PR skill or engagement with the community. That's what everybody was pissed at Jeter about, right? Well, no advantage there either. Put it all together and we see the result: the fans and donors have deserted the program. The Arena is a sad morgue on game days.
As a practical matter I understand that Baldwin is the coach until his contract runs out whether we like it or not and no matter how much the program might come to resemble the Cobb era under his direction. The program simply doesn't have the money to make a change. (Largely because this is a vicious cycle; no fans and no donors means no money, which means no support, which means....) The only real hope for the men's basketball program is to clean sweep the athletics department and get people in there who might actually be able to help Baldwin grow into the role.
Of course, I don't believe that will happen either. Anybody who doesn't understand at this point that our University administration just doesn't care is a fool. I've watched this play out repeatedly for almost 50 years. Even good ADs were challenged in this environment. The clown car of atrocious ADs we have had since Bud Haidet retired has had no chance.
Hope is not a strategy. Braun bet the program on her moronic decision in 2016 -- and lost the bet. Once again, in a BEST case scenario we are YEARS away from the program merely getting back to where Jeter had it in an average year. 19-20 wins a year (while playing in a GOOD league) and 2500 to 4000 fans a game. Actual non-invisible fans! Hoping for better than that is borderline insane on the evidence right in front of all of us.

Quite frankly, nothing surprises me with this program anymore.

Unsurprising, but still really disappointing. I hope he finds a good landing space and the rest of the team is able to grow from this.

I wonder where Carson will resurface. Perhaps it will be Butler? Or Loyola?
