If this Top 8 scenario is the way things are going to be going forward, it should be written into the head coach's contract (the current head coach and every one after) that not qualifying for the Horizon League Tournament is grounds for immediate termination. I don't find this the least bit unreasonable, and neither should any of you. Not only would coaches not agree to this provision, schools could potentially screw themselves financially too. You would have to be an individual with absolutely no belief in yourself to be successful to not agree to such a provision. If I were a head coach, and couldn't make Top 8 in today's Horizon League, I would know myself I need a new line of work.

Gambling on yourself to be fired after your first year on the job is incredibly stupid. Imagine UDM pitching that clause to a coach who has to fill 8 scholarships in less than one summer. Besides, what happens when a current coach says no? Are ADs going to fire someone like Nagy or Brannen? Good luck selling that to your fan base!

Who in the Hell is talking about coaches the likes of Nagy and Brannen? I'm talking about people that Amanda Braun would hire.

Instead Butler immediately hired him away from us, where he looks to be doing great. So yeah....

i agree. this would have led to Jeters termination after a few years , because we had a couple real bad teams that would have missed the HLT under the top 8 format. That's not accurate at all. Correct, Rob Jeter would have only been fired once, after the 2012-13 season, for finishing 3–13 and 9th (out of 9) in the Horizon League. His next worst finish was 7th (followed by 5 times finishing as a 5 seed). en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rob_Jeter#Head_coaching_record
