Brandon Miller was away from Butler for 5 years when he got the head coaching job in 2013. I might be splitting hairs as he was a Butler guy no doubt. He had a failed tenure as well. Not sure what if anything that means for Jordan. I think Jordan is tremendous, long term he will be tough to keep, I hope you don't lose him now. There were extenuating circumstances with Brandon Miller. I don't think his tenure would have any bearing on Jordan. That said, what does Jordan's alleged immediate interest say about us? Sent from my SM-G930R4 using proboards It's say he has interest for his school he played at. In one of the best league's in the country. Team that just made it to the Sweet 16. A school that fills it's arena. Double his pay.

Things can obviously change but the last time Butler didn't promote from within when there was a head coaching change was Barry Collier in 1989. Every hire single has been an internal promotion to head coach. Nope, I was wrong. Yes, Miller is "part of the family" but he wasn't promoted from the current staff to HC so that's my mistake.

That said, what does Jordan's alleged immediate interest say about us? The same as it'd say about the Celtics if Shrewsberry is also interested.

That said, what does Jordan's alleged immediate interest say about us? The same as it'd say about the Celtics if Shrewsberry is also interested. From all the people I've talked to, they believe Shrews is "next in line" and should get the job. One used to coach here, one used to coach at Butler, one used to be in the Horizon League. None of them are primary sources, so there's no story to be written. The general consensus is that if Shrews doesn't work out, it's Terry - which goes along with what Holic referenced about promoting from within. So if these coaches are right, we stand a good chance of keeping Jordan. Which I think we'll all be relieved to know. But it's a disheartening to know that after one season, with 11 victories, Jordan is allegedly ready to make the jump. Say what you will, but if he's formally interviewed it may have a bad effect on recruiting. Our coaches can say it was his alma mater and all that and they'd be right, but it's still gonna be brought up by other coaches in the form of negative recruiting. So not only should we hope he's staying, but also that his courtship doesn't get serious. Sent from my SM-G930R4 using proboards

So if LJ does jump, Jimmy, who would be the candidates to replace him? Let's try to put together a list.

Would Billy Donlon come here? This program could do a lot worse.

This program could do a lot worse. Could? g-o-d, I think you can be absolutely certain that with our administration, it will! By the way, you are all overlooking the obvious candidates. Just think -- our record is abysmal, our attendance has crashed to historic lows, our fan interest is non-existent and we play in a terrible league. And yet nobody has mentioned that both Ray Swetalla and Ric Cobb are available!? They're tailor-made for this kind of program! They even have head-coaching experience! Back... to the future!!

This would be my choice, for next season as an interim head coach. Earn the job like Holtmann did at Butler. It's too late to make a good hire, and it would kill the recruiting. Remember when Jimmy Collins abruptly retired? Howard Moore took the job late in the summer and never got things off the ground. Should Jordan leave - and I still believe Shrews is the leader in the clubhouse - I would immediately promote Todd Townsend to interim head coach and prepare for a search next spring. By the way, that search should be conducted by a new AD. You can slice it whichever way you like, but LaVall Jordan is jumping at the chance to get out of here 14 months after taking the job. He clearly doesn't want to be here working for this athletic department. That's all on Amanda Braun. LaVall Jordan is a young guy who just finished his first year of head coaching. He has 11 victories to his name. He's what...38? He may have as many as five chances in the future to land the head coaching job at his alma mater. Yet, he's aggressively pursuing it. I'm not doing a dance on this, but anyone who tries to spin this as anything other than a complete exposure of what LaVall Jordan thinks of Amanda Braun's leadership is kidding themselves. Whether or not LaVall Jordan is our coach next year, Braun needs to take a hike. She's destroyed this basketball program. Everyone was so ready to pitch Rob Jeter in the dumpster because he hadn't replicated the success of a flat-out cheater. Rob Jeter, the guy who had unwavering loyalty to this school, not taking jobs offered to him years after he cleared the hurdle for his state pension. Rob Jeter, the guy whose resume through 11 years was almost identical to the resumes of mid-major sacred cows Bob McKillop and Jim Larranaga. I wasn't here when Bruce Pearl was but I know all about how he talked about putting down roots from those of you who were. I remember the talk from LaVall Jordan last year when he came in about building something special. I have no hard feelings for either of those guys; you gotta go where your heart leads you. I just know there was another guy whose heart ultimately led him back here, to Milwaukee, every time he was courted by some major school. Back here, despite all the sh*t he took from the revolving door of indifferent chancellors and awful athletic directors. Some of you are learning a pretty difficult lesson about loyalty right now. I hope that whatever happens, LaVall Jordan gets what he wants. By all accounts he's a great guy and a tremendous leader of men. For us, I hope his heart leads him back here, and by his own decision rather than in defeat after failing to get the job at his alma mater. I hope LaVall Jordan is our coach for ten more years. I just know that he doesn't seem interested in doing that under current leadership. Thanks, Amanda.

All well and good, BPU, but I was told by the finest amateur coaches I know that Rob Jeter smiled when he should have frowned, frowned when he should have smiled, ceded control to the officials by not yelling at them, and lost control of the game... whenever he yelled at the officials. Oh, and he didn't take timeouts he should have taken, except when he did take timeouts, when he shouldn't have taken them. I mean come on, man. Loyalty in the face of sabotage by Athletic Directors? Championships? Tournaments? Recruiting great players who did us proud on and off the court? Assembling a senior class filled with high D1 players?
What does that stuff have to do with anything, dude? The bottom line is simple. He wasn't Bruce Pearl. Care to deny that?
JDS.
And seriously, Todd Townsend? Honest to God -- it may be time for some of our fans to dust off their Steve Showalter fantasies. The bottom is now two stories above where we are.

If not, then you are just connecting the dots to see what you want to see. Like I mentioned, he could be interviewing because it is simply a better job. All we know is that he is interviewing for Butler, interpret that however you want.

Sent from my SM-G930R4 using proboards Sorry I didn't complete my thought very well on that. I am aware of Miller's problems. I was trying to make the point that Collier might feel more comfortable with someone he has been around daily as opposed to someone who is a Butler guy but hasn't been around in 5+ years. If there were any red flags you would likely see them for someone you are around every day. I am not BS'ing though, I think Jordan is awesome and obviously a great leader for any program.

I think from a business perspective if Jordan wins in Milwaukee he could have the Butler job many times in the future. However if he doesn't win big he won't. How serious of a candidate does Matthew Graves look like with his 51-78 record at South Alabama? The thing is the Butler job can set his family up financially for life, no matter what happens in his career. That has to be something to consider.
Here is something else to consider for Butler fans and Jordan's ambitions. He grew up an hour away from Ann Arbor Michigan. I know Butler fans think Butler is his dream job and he would stay. Do we know for sure that Michigan isn't his dream job? If Michigan is his dream job then he needs success at a Butler type job to get it. I know success for Ryan, Pearl and Jeter all led to other offers but nothing like a Michigan level athletic department. I don't think Jordan could go from Milwaukee to Michigan as easily as success at Butler could lead him to Michigan whenever Belien retires. If Michigan is his true ambition then I can see the desire for Butler.
Plus I can also see the Braun factor.
If he does go I agree with the Todd Townsend call. There is no need to rush into a hire for Milwaukee at this stage. The candidate pool will be much deeper in April of 18 than it is in June of 17. Who is that D2 guy from the Dakota's? Would he still be a candidate?
