Rodgers vs. Cutler. Lambeau vs. Soldier Field. Lasry and Edens vs. UWM and the Wave. It all appears extraordinarily one-sided from where I'm sitting. ...and other than the people on this board, it doesn't seem like we're really trying to stop this. Does the university care?

If only Amanda Braun knew her elbow from a hole in the ground.
Three cheers for our athletics director!

After announcing the plans for a new practice facility, maybe UWM should pump the breaks on that and wait to see what happens downtown. They have to start considering worst case scenarios. I know a practice facility is cheaper than a on campus arena, but what would are options be if the Bucks got what they wanted?
It's also time for the university to go on the offensive. What they're currently doing is nowhere near enough. The leaders of the university must be more proactive before its already a done deal.

If the ownership group plus Herb Kohl plus other potential sources can pledge all or almost all the funds for construction, the politicians in place are going to give the ownership group their site. In today's political landscape, any politician that doesn't accept this potential gift has committed political suicide. That's the reality of the situation.

Bud Selig grabbed the narrative on the new Brewers stadium by saying the Brewers would pay for it. It was a flat out lie -- and it worked.
Whatever the new Bucks ownership says now, the public will be tapped for hundreds of millions in direct or indirect costs in this deal -- and of course will receive none of the profits, if there ever are any.
Meanwhile, UWM will be tossed on the street, and 20 years from now the Bucks, -- if they are even still here then -- will start the drumbeat that their crappy outdated fieldhouse built way back in 2015 needs to be replaced. Or they'll move!!

journaltimes.com/sports/basketball/bucks-beat-owners-closing-in-on-arena-site-funding/article_e3825515-e7b2-5581-ba13-8825c38bc713.htmlThe linked article confirms both that the private ownership interests are well over $100 million short on construction funding and that they want to tear down the Arena. Remember that there will also be immense infrastructure costs that are not included in the demolition, site prep and construction costs. Inevitably the taxpayers -- you -- will be tagged for a HUGE contribution. If the idea that you will be paying higher taxes for many years in a plan that will do lasting damage to YOUR university makes your blood boil, then SPEAK UP to your legislators and elected leaders NOW.

Without The Arena, the university will be forced to hold commencement exercises at the Klotsche Center in shifts ... or pay a king's ransom to stage them at the Taj Mahal.

On the bright side, maybe the Bucks will lend us their go-go girls, t-shirt cannons and the music they blare constantly at ear-splitting levels for our commencement exercises. The eight or nine thousand actual ticket buying fans who bother to attend Bucks games seem to love that stuff, so why shouldn't we? It just screams collegiate atmosphere!

I just can't get over that this makes no sense at all.
There is a perfectly good empty lot that borders the current Bradley Center. Build it there.
Why spend millions in extra money to tear down a perfectly good, well built, 11k seat arena.
I don't get it and don't think I ever will.
If this does get done, and we are stuck playing back at the Klotsche, I pledge to never set foot in the new NBA palace, ever. (Which will suck for me because I do like hockey and going to Admirals games.)
The only thing that would change that would be if part of the money Kohl and the new Sucks owners put up goes to FULLY renovating the Klotsche or of course building us a brand new arena.
And I'm not even sure about that.
