I'm sure we could afford this due to all the magical revenue that just appeared around the athletics office

I wish they would have dropped the UW- but I'll take it.

That UW before hand takes away all flow of the name but I'm still happy

So it's unsatisfactory on two counts. Why not just Panthers Arena?

So it's unsatisfactory on two counts. Why not just Panthers Arena? I think they want the University name on the building as well.

I understand they want to assure that everyone that sees the name knows that it is UWM, and i understand that if it was only Milwaukee panthers arena they lose a lot of advertising when people don't know who the Milwaukee panthers are, but you have to think they could have figured out a more creative solution. Why not make it Milwaukee panthers arena and have giant uw-milwaukee school logos on all sides of the building, as well as the sports logo next to the name Milwaukee panthers arena on opposite corners on all sides of the arena.
It just sounds horrible off the tongue as is and it permanently seals our fate as the hyphenated UW-Milwaukee Panthers

$340,000 per year for naming rights, on top of $180,000 (as I recall) to lease the building, equates to over half a million dollars per year for the Panther Arena, which on top of everything else is difficult to say. Remember when the whole reason we were going to build on-campus was because it was financially unviable to continue to play at the Cell? I recall people on this very forum with lots of stars by their username even casting doubt on Pearl's insistence on playing there in the first place.
And how embarrassing will it be to have an arena with our freaking name on it and fill it 1/3 of the way up on a regular basis?

This should end anyone's ludicrous whining to the JS for their refusal to refer to the teams as Milwaukee Panthers.

My opinion? The name is a Meh, but all that aside, this is probably the university's best advertisement yet. All the events held there that will have the university mentioned in ads and promos, the number of people walking by that will see it on the way to the BC or Goolsby's.
Not saying it's a guaranteed cash cow, but... It's nice to have an arena with a history that can be considered ours.

The "UW" is slightly annoying but this is some of the best news the program could have asked for today!

Okay we know what we can't change at the moment so let us talk about what we can change to enhance fan experience at The Panther Arena which is probably what everyone will call it. Like The Cell, The Klotche, Lambeau, the building will be associated with the players, coaches, and fans as thery see it. I think we should talk about the upgrades to the building, better food for before and after game experience. We should push for space to sell Panther gear year round. Like The Brewers let's push for a Panther Wall of Fame. I can see opening up each end of the building to bring in light, think Hinkle. Gimbel has our money let us use it wisely. Finally, signage can change with better colors and lighting to enhance the brand. Ideas anyone?

What a big day for Panther Athletics. But we all knew that naming ANYTHING would be a issue because of our branding problems (being called 3 different names). They should use this building as a chance to finally get it right. Also, will the court have a 2nd name for a cheaper price from a sponsor? And maybe we can host some state sectionals too. Maybe even the state tournament final (it was in Green Bay last year - girls). But fix the name and start booking.
