Tacked on to the NY Times article about Larry Brown and the SMU job*, is a note that Toledo will not be eligible for the NCAA Tournament next year because of APR problems. Toledo appealed, but the appeal was denied.
That's going to make things at least a little harder for pmck.
There have been discussions about the weaknesses in the formula for APR on this board before.

Part of the appeal was that the grades have gone up significatly since pmck got there. There was a huge mess accomplished before pmck moved to Toledo that he is paying for.

...which is, i believe, one of the criticisms leveled at the NCAA's formula for APR.
To clarify...i was not attributing the penalty to pmck's tenure with the program, just noting that it is making his life a little harder.

The backstory is that Akron could smell Toledo's obvious quality.

First of all the "cheating Pearl years" took place at Tennessee. Secondly, RJ didn't have recruits to bring over from his former team. Thirdly, how many HL championships did pmck win?... Elsewhere? FWIW - pmck was 7-9 against Milwaukee & 1-1 against Fairleigh Dickinson. Pearl also cheated while at Milwaukee, having recruits over to his house. This is the same offense he committed at Tennessee, he just did not get caught lying to the NCAA. Granted Jeter did not have another team to steal recruits from, but he did inherit a loaded team from Pearl and he had a year to get his own recruits. Take away Jeter's first year and he is just over a 500 coach. Jeter has the HL championships but one of them was with Pearl's team and the other was a three way tie with Milwaukee winning the tie breakers. Post season play clearly showed Milwaukee to be the third best team. Green Bay may have lost to Fairleigh Dickinson but they have also beaten Marquette and Wisconsin. Don't you have some close calls against Parkside? Take away both coaches first years where they were playing with the previous coaches players and their records against each other come out in Kowalczyk,s favor. Kowalczyk is gone, get over it. If any team should be upset with Kowalczyk, it would be Green Bay, but they seem to be prepared to move on. Let's hear it for Mr. November!!! Now 14-18 all time in conference tournaments.

You've got to hand it to him. That extension would be 27 years of continuous employment without a NCAA Tournament appearance. That has to be a record in itself!
